hand polish or machine polish?

Featured Replies

hi everyone i am going to try and remove some marks on my rear bumper until i can afford to have her fully repaired.

Just wondered would the scratches and marks come out better with a machine polisher rather than hand graft?

cheers thanks everyone

Hi mate, depends how deep your scratches are,if you can feel it with your fingernail then machine polish would prob take them out.if light scratches then a good polish will fill them in.

This might be a silly question but if im polishing the car n stuff, is it always better to use a machine rather than hand?

Kind regards,

Cal:)

cheers for your help mate i can feel them with my nail but they are not mega deep i used some scratch x last night however it was in the dark so i did not do the best of jobs...so fingers crossed with a machine they will come out a little better....also what is the best sand paper to get at what grit to take some finer ones out cheers thanks

If they are only light scratches, then use Brasso/Duraglit, just make sure you get it off and get some good polish on afterwards.

brasso ha ha never heard that before lo...thanks for the advice mate i will give it a go think they are a little deeper but nothing major i used a bit of fine sand paper at lunch time think its made it worse he he no not really fingers crossed with a machine polish you wont be able to see it as much what you think ???????

Brasso/Duraglit is only a very fine wadding with a lubricant, and used at more body shops than you might think for very light scratches that dont warrant a full machine polish.

Just take your time and you'll be surprised just what you can clear with it.

yup as Gerry said just be careful with it if you use Brasso.

next to no pressure and plenty of lube (water and car wash mixed) regular checks and then give it a good wax after

If it doesn't work have a look on detailingworld, there's tons of advice about polishing, machine polishing, wet sanding etc.

what product should i use on the polisher first? scratch x? t cut? or polish or wax?

cheers thanks i have the merg three stage system so should i use this ??

megs 3 step wont do you any good with a machine polisher.

try scratch x first then have a look at the menzerna polishes

If they are only light scratches, then use Brasso/Duraglit, just make sure you get it off and get some good polish on afterwards.

Brasso - brilliant stuff for repairing CDs & DVDs never tried on the car but will keep it on mind, as the need arises (usually after supermarket trips. think they would put some rubber protectors on shopping trolleys :D)
