Drone noise! It's not the new tyres so now wot?

Featured Replies

Had a drone sort of nosie start up as soon as i put new falken tyres on the front which was not there before! Seemed odd so i thought it might of been the tyre's first place to look really, well swapped the back's for the front and guess what........it still does it arrghhh! Any ideas what this could be? seem's to do it when cornering right and when pulling up to a stop. Now i have worn down conti's on the front :o but going to leave them on the front and ware them down so i can get some other new tyres.

I had something similar and it turned out to be the wheel bearing. The new tyres seemed to make the noise more noticeable

Yeah i thought may be wheel bearing but i thought the nosie would get louder the faster you go with a bearing or may be not?

My first thought was wheel bearing, but I'm just an armchair mechanic so not really any idea

 cheers mate, looks like im going to have to get it checked out! :(

fk452 are good tyres.

Does the noise start at about 30mph?

Does it change with direction?

wheel bearing faliures are generally quite until about 30mph but don't get louder with speed after that imo.

Yeah must admit the falkens are good and will be getting 2 more soon for the front (now) after i get this nosie sorted out. No real nosie at higher speeds just when slowing down/ turning sharp right makes alot of nosie? notice it when on a roundabout.

Mine made noise on roundabouts too but when turning left. There was no rattle or roughness in bearing either.I changed left bearing problem solved.

mine wheelbearing started like this, and road noise hid it after 50mph. loudest at 30-40 mph. common problem and took about 2 hrs to change. been told garage replace hub now-less labour and hubs arn't to dear.

Best tyres should always be on the back so at least you have sorted that one. As for the noise I would guess bearings as well

Please don't start that again :P:rofl:

Its always fun, now which is best VRS or 4x4

Still at least the tyre one you can argue with facts, the other I suppose you dont have to argue 4x4 every time

SORRY, gone off topic again

Does anyone know how much hubs are because i think i need one on the nearside. My abs sensor always goes off when i pull into a car parking place. Replaced sensor and it still does it. Have been told best bet is a second hand one coz new ones are pretty expensive and you have to replace the bearing. Any suggestions:confused:

Thanks for the replys! got it booked in next week at tsr hopefully just the wheel bearing, will be glad to get it sorted out. So they replace the hub now?

Didn't replace hub on mine just the bearing. Took mechanic just under an hour.:) Hope you get it sorted.
