door unlocking problems

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

im trying to resolve a very strange set of problems with the doors on my octy.

i have an 2002 estate and i have the rear passanger door that will not unlock either by unlocking the doors with the central locking with the key or the switch in the drivers door. i cant pull the button up to pull the interior door handle to open.

on the drivers passanger door it will sometimes open with the key or button in the drivers door but occasionally (and its becoming more frequent) will not open and only locking and unlocking all the doors quickly will allow the door to open.

this also i think appears to be happening with the boot door lock as sometimes the lock feels like it it is difficult to lock ie central locking not working or again takes a few opening closing cycles to lock properly

in beginning to think im going to have some v difficult problems to sort out and i have never really tried anything like this before im quite handy with electronics but cars ive always stayed away from

can anyone point me in the right direction

thanks a million

philo

Do a search in the Octavia forums for lock problems - you will find it is quite common and as yet, un-resolved.

Hi,

Your problem seems somewhat similar to the one that I had. Mine was loss of power to the servo in the drivers door.

This was fixed just by cleaning the dirty contacts. Because the doors are interwired, you may find that it cures all the problems. It is not a hard job to do, as I am no brain surgeon.

Hope that this is some help:-

Fixed my central locking problem.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Earlier I posted a thread on the site regarding and infuriating central locking problem, on my 2001 1600cc Octavia LX, which I am not able to find now.

The problem was that if the car was parked with the drivers door facing the sunlight, then the servo in that door would loose power completely, meaning that I would need to trot around to the passenger door to unlock all the doors, which funnily enough in turn would unlock the drivers door.

I have now cured the problem. Firstly I was amazed as to how easy it is with the Skoda mk1 to get the door panel off. I had to do the same thing with my previous car, a Vauxhall Carlton, and ended up renewing plastic clips after breaking them off, and I could never get it back on properly, after that, and came to the conclusion that it was never meant to come off after leaving the factory. The Vauxhal Carlton was a pig to work on in more ways than one, which included the distributer cap being almost against the firewall, which meant that a bent screwdriver had to be used to remove the cap. An hours job to turn each screw a half a turn at a time. Seem to remember that it was two of them.

The Skoda job was a piece of cake to do. Disconnected the battery, then parted the two halves of the door handle with a thin knife, then remove the two long screws. I have manually operated windows, and so the winder is removed by just pressing the inside of the handle to release it. Very easy. Then there are three screws at the bottom of the door panel, and four either side of the door. The only minor difficulty was releasing the door panel from the top weather seal, which needed a bit of persuasion. Then it was just a case of disconnecting the door security LED, and uncoupling the the door handle release rod.

After carefully peeling back the polythene weather membrane, so as not to tear it, I disconnected the multi way plug, and gave it a blast of cleaning fluid. reconnected the plug

and temporally reconnected the battery, and tested operation of the servo. Worked just fine, and so disconnected battery again and reassembled. No more problems since, I am pleased to say.

If anyone ever needs to do the same thing, and is not sure how, please contact me.

Soviet.

thanks a million guys it could be somthing as simple as the connectors. is there a way to take of the panel of a door enough to unlock it or is there a way to unlock it ?

the manual door lock button will not unlock under any circumstances (ive triied to pull the button up and open the door from the inside and outside with no joy either way) and i reckon i cant begin to figure out what is happening til i get the door to open

am i condenmed to visit my skoda dealer???

I had lock problems with my 53 VRS (the drivers door would not open but others would). Also had other funny electical things going on too (my passenger wing mirror would not adjust and the drivers one moved no matter which position the switch was in). The pproblem I had was with the control unit in the drivers door. apparently it has a slight design floor in that water can get into the contacts and corrode them causing all these funny electical/locking issue. If you can get the drivers door open in may be worth stripping in down and seeing if this unit is OK and cleaning the contacts etc. Hopefully it will prevent you having to go to the dealers.

hi, my problem is with my central locking. check out my post for the lot. I cant see any way of fixing it.(short of relacing the whole thing.....
