Improving main beam to match xenons

Featured Replies

My Octy has factory fit xenons which are great. But main beam is crap by comparison.:thumbdwn::thumbdwn:

Has anyone with a xenon fitted Octy 1 fitted different main beam bulbs? Think they are H1's.

hi not the answer you are looking for maybe as I don't have factory fitted xenon's but I replaced my Halogens with Xenon filled Osram Nightbreaker bulbs, I put it on a thread yesterday sourced them from http://www.autobulbsonline.co.uk and was very pleased with the result, they come in h1,h4 and h7 fitment.

Yep,

I got some of the fancy ones from Demon tweeks.

Much better than standard.

Cheers

I know some of the Fabia boys with xenons have stuck some 100W main beam bulbs in which have made a big difference. Failing that, you could always get some dedicated spots? :D

Ever thought of going for a bi-xenon setup? Thought about it for my Furby only thing stopping me is the lack of space for another 2 ballasts!

If your xenons are set up properly you shouldnt need to use main beam, i have never used my main beam once.

I don't agree with that - main beam should give you a much higher and longer field of vision. If your dipped beams are producing this, you must be blinding oncoming traffic!

I agree with Chris, mine are set up correctly and I use full beam from time to time. When I bought the car they were set too high which made full beam pointless, but I was forever getting flashed.

I've thought about putting xenon's in the full beam, but I know they don't like being flashed on and off quickly, so that put me off. I notice the new Passat (and others I'm sure) have the option of having xenon full beams, which are completely separate bulbs to the dipped (unlike some others where full beam is switched on by simply moving a mechanical cover away from the dipped bulb). I have been considering the possibility of getting bits from one of these... maybe something I'll look into when I have more time. I decided against the 100w bulbs because the wiring to the headlights doesn't look very substantial and I don't fancy melting it (or the plastic lenses).

And I also agree with Chris and Phil.

The other problem with 100W bulbs is that they have been known to melt the bulbholders out of the reflectors, leaving people with a bill for 2 new headlights!

I'm pleased to say mine (in both the Fabia and the Mondeo) have done a few 3 hours stints (gotta love driving around the middle of the country at 2am:rofl:) and all wiring, blub holders and lenses are fine
