Jacking up the car

Featured Replies

OK, this may be a stupid question but....

Was planning on taking off the alloys today using the jack provided with the car. just wanted to check that leaving the car jacked up with this for 30 mins or so per wheel will be OK using this jack?

Probably be ok - but I feel that you really should also use a jackstand for safety.

The OEM jack is kinda flimsy and if it slips it could cause you some serious probs...

Good luck

Thanks, that's what I was thinking. Will purchase some stands before doing a full-on clean of the alloys.

Had no probs using the OEM jack when doing the wheels or the brakes. :D Some stands or popping the spare wheel under the sill is a good backup though.

just a point about the stands - the fabia is pretty low - I found that the smallest sized stands work the best - I have some medium ones that are a bit too high even on their lowest setting....

Also if you have some woodworking skills - making a custom piece of hardwood (say from a pallet) with a groove in the top to engage the sill lip helps protect the sill from getting twisted.

^ he's always got the good ideas :)

I do that!

stands, pah we used bricks back in the day;)

At the front I use a trolley jack on the crossmember at the rear of the engine, and the stands go under the subframe where the rear wishbone mounting is.

Never fell off or bent nuthin
