New ADSL modem won't work!

Featured Replies

Just got a new Zoom 5551 ADSL modem/router so I could start playing XBOX live. Loaded all the gumpf and then started to connect the modem as instructed. All seemed to load up ok and the computer noticed the new hardware when connected, but it won't connect to the internet!

Connected my old BT voyager modem and all is now fine again! Will have to play around when I got more time!

Anyone got any idea's at all to help, please feel free to add them. ;)

Checked for new firmware?

How'd ya do that then? Thought hardware and software were the only things you could get!

maybe the internet options are set to connect automatically to BT,so you need new ISP settings?

Routers run on software too. Just visit the manufacturer's site and see if they have a download section.

Still can't get it sorted! Oh well, I'll leave it for another day! Got things to get done first! :D

Every modem you connect via ADSL needs ISP settings. Your old modem will have these in as you will have configured these at some point. You need to configure the new modem with these settings like, domain name, login name, dns servers, vci and vpi.

Your technical support via your ISP will help you with all of them.

Hope this helps.

PS my XBOX live game tag is Chavyboy
