I've been getting the engine management coming on and off recently and I'd like to know why. It came on on Saturday morning when just driving along at 30mph. Stayed on then when I was heading back from MTBing on Sunday when I got back into the car after 5 hours on the bike the light was gone... I'm sure it'll come back though :(

Yes that will work.

When you say 'work' that's a bit misleading. The lead can only be used with the old old old 409.1 version of vag-com, in shareware unless you go to ross-tech and buy a copy. You cannot auto-scan faults, you cannot work on newer cars if you change car, you cannot alter adaptations (make changes to settings) but it's just about okay to read a specific block and clear a specific fault code. I found it very limited but if tha'ts all you want it for then that's okay.

I agree it is very limited with the shareware version but that is the idea.

I do normally post a full explanation of the pro's and cons of the eBay/China cables however it is such a common question that a search will reveal many a reply to similar questions.

I have one of those cables, but I find that with the engine running vag-com seems to loose connectivity with the car - fine with the ignition off. Maybe I need to reinstall vag-com, not really had a chance to play recently.
