Performance Problem

Featured Replies

Hi - I have a Felcia '95 1.3 LXi, the car has been as good as gold until recently it started to have a problem with both tick over, and now when accerelating hard.

It started after 1) battery went flat 2) cleaned up throttle body, it began with under tick over rpm would fluctuate between 1200-1600 (when usually ticked over at 1000), I thought after the ECU had gone through start up procedure would sort it out but hasn't and is not quite as bad but still there, then recently if you accelerate hard in 2/3/4th gears you hit 3000 rpm and the car backs off, if you release pedal slightly comes back in but still perplexed by it, I am told either air leak or too much fuel but wanted to know if anyone else had experienced it.

Thanks

Lumpy idle and general poor performance may be a coolant temperature sensor problem. This usually also presents as the temperature gauge sitting at the bottom from time to time. If so, I did a pictorial (for the 1.4MPi in the Fabia) that ought to help you, here. Since I did the pictorial, I've been advised that it's worth changing the thermostat body at the same time as well. I think the parts will be the same as for the Fabia, and can be bought as a kit (sensor and 'stat body - the sensor sits inside the 'stat body) for not much more than the sensor on its own. The only difference is that you'll need to either drain the system or clamp off the coolant hoses either side of the thermostat body, unbolt it from its mount, and then either top up or refill as appropriate.

Hope this helps!

Thanks - sensor changed with new one the other day (internal gauge on dash still doesn't work so not sure if wiring?!?), thermostat works, so didn't replace but may do it now anyhow to see what happens
