Should I buy a Fabia Vrs

Featured Replies

Hi there I'm looking to replace my wifes pug 205 diesel as it's seen better days. I have a octavia vrs and it's been the best car i've ever had, so we are now hooked on skoda. Question is , is the fabia as good as everyone says ? My wife does alot of miles so economy is a must , but she wants somthing sporty and small. What's the performance like? Whats the real mpg figures.

Ben

I love my vRS, so much I don't care about MPG :)

The performance is very good. Not a supercar, but loads of fun.

Realistic MPG? 42mpg in heavy traffic or foot down hard, 60mpg gentle cruise. I manage 46-47-48 on my commute wich is about 6 miles urban, 20 miles motorway at [cough] mph.

Worst ever? 30mpg crawling home in snow with lots of stop-start.

Buy one. Buy one now.

I love mine :)

I get 48-50mpg :)

They are excellent for the application you are proposing. Buy one. I do 900 miles a week in mine.

I get 42-44 mpg- how the hell any of you lot get 50 + I ll never know.

Great little car, 44 mile round trip to work and don't touch a motorway once and even with a bit of playing around when the traffic allows, I still manage at least 52 mpg but TBH I'm disappointed when I get less than 55mpg.

I dont get those figures, but I like to put my foot down. but always in the 40's. Seems the fabia meets your requirements

TBH, you're not going to get an unbiased view here, however I would have no issue recommending one to any of my friends.

when i got my fabia back the other day after its new turbo i had a bigger smile than when i drive the M3!

crazy? dont care, awesome car! buy one buy now!

Only complaint - on 5% of the roads (really rough) the ride is really crashy.

Other than that all you could ask of a smallish car

Get 40 to 42 mpg around town - usually 3 mile trip then stop. 3 mile return trip then stop.

Recently did approx 1000 miles on holiday - 52mpg on motorway mostly (and I wasn't hanging around) and then fast A roads. 48+ mpg on A and country roads but the engine had chance to warm up at least unlike most of our motoring. And then a 48+ for A roads, some motorway home and some town driving.

Agreed, the ride is a little rough despite the handling not being that hot. It's also not 'that' fast but is good fun (especially on hills) and gives brisk enough performance to put a smile on your face. Average MPG for me is about 42mpg.

Just don't go racing any Octy vRS's. You need a 2.0 Fabia for that. :D

Sure the wife will still beat me she's mad!

I'm happy to report that Koni FSD's have sorted that problem (on standard springs).

I just knew you'd be along soon :P

Might be worth looking at the ibiza TDi my better half has the 1.4TDi which is fine for both motorway work and around town, it does lack the lower down torque of the 1.9. She went for the ibiza because it looked sporter than the fabia does.

I only use mine for motorway work, I get over 55mpg fairly easy, best to date has been 67.9 and that is from a remapped and 17" wheels.

The ride is "sporty" and it does feel like it but it's no different in the ibiza, the polo is softer but then you pay the extra for that

I would go got it mate, quick off the mark, miles to the gallon I get is about 38-40 in the town and about 52 -55 mpg on a long drive.

The best I have had and was not me driving but was the girlfriend was 67.1mpg.

Out of the three cars pole, ibiza and fabia, I would go for the fabia, the ibiza is a nice car but I feel that the fabia looks better inside.

Nice hot hatch and good value for money.

Hi

I have the 100PD Fabia

Mine has been mapped up to 140bhp with Koni STR.T kit up to 35mm as it always looked laike a Fabia , but on stilts :(

I do 148mile round trip per day and I get approx 60mpg

It cost less to buy and I love it to bits

It had 43k on the clock when I bought it , it now has 110k

In that time , it needed steering sensor and MAF

I cleaned it on sunday and then refused to start (I think it was in shock :D ) and it was the battery

Origional battery and the car is 6 years old :D cannot complain

Sarah

Buy one, you will not be dissapointed!

I have had mine a few months now, still get excited about driving it, especially after remap and everyone who sees it or is driven in it loves it.

Decent boot, four doors, rapid mid range grunt what more could you want or need:)

I get about 160ish miles from 20 quid of diesel before light comes on but usually run it until 200 before filling up. My run is mosty stop start traffic for about 8 miles, some motorway on trip home.

Only complaint - on 5% of the roads (really rough) the ride is really crashy.

48+ on A and country roads wish i could get that :D

People should state whether the economy figures they are stating are real, or the fictional ones dreamed up by the trip computer. In the real world you'll probably get between 42 and 55 mpg. If you believe the trip computer it will be between 52 and 70. Yer pays yer money and takes yer choice...

In my experience most people don't measure their economy, but believe the trip computer (hey, it's a computer - it must be right!). Deduct 10 mpg from what people are quoting and you'll be pretty close.

They were mostly long drives - but all the mpg figures were brim to brim measurements (I never have bothered much with the onboard computer readings, old habits and all that).

i would deffo get one am on my second fabia vrs and love them

Here's my fuel consumption figures over the last while. I would guesstimate that 50% of my mileage is slow moving, 50% motorway. I use the brim-brim method every 2 weeks (when the tank is empty)
