Should I buy a Fabia Vrs

Featured Replies

Here's my fuel consumption figures over the last while. I would guesstimate that 50% of my mileage is slow moving, 50% motorway. I use the brim-brim method every 2 weeks (when the tank is empty)

Wowzers,

I thought I was obsessed with fuel economy,

but I've never typed it up into a spreadsheet!

I must try harder!

My Octy trip computer seems to be similar to Fletch555's

in that it's only a couple of mpg out against brim to brim.

People should state whether the economy figures they are stating are real, or the fictional ones dreamed up by the trip computer. In the real world you'll probably get between 42 and 55 mpg. If you believe the trip computer it will be between 52 and 70. Yer pays yer money and takes yer choice...

In my experience most people don't measure their economy, but believe the trip computer (hey, it's a computer - it must be right!). Deduct 10 mpg from what people are quoting and you'll be pretty close.

My trip computer is very close to real (brim-to-brim) mpg: within 1-2 mpg.

Yeh I am a lil obsessed at this stage :D I've kept a google document of my mileage every time I filled since I got the vRS (over a yr now). I also have another column where I track service issues, so if I change tyres/do an oil change etc I note it down.
It's also not 'that' fast but is good fun (especially on hills) and gives brisk enough performance to put a smile on your face.

Compared to a diesel 205 it'll feel like a rocket ship!:D

My wife gets avg 45mpg on her 9 mile commute to work which is mostly dual carriageway. (properly measured, not trip computer values).

Personally I love the handling- it's compliant enough to soak up the bumps on the crappy roads up here and still be good fun to chuck about. I can hustle it along my favourite road quicker than I could in my VX220 :rubchin::blush:

The handeling is sweet compared to my focus even through the focus has good handeling I think the fabia is better and sticks to the road on the twisties.

My spreadsheet contains the real MPG for the tank, the average MPG since I got the car and the MPG given by the trip computer. In addition it's got a graph so that trends in economy can be easily spotted.:)

Is there any way of adjusting the trip computer to make it more accurate? Mine seems to be about 10mpg out, although it seems to be getting a little better the longer I own the car.

Erm you are joking right? I assume the fabia you talk of is heavily modded, as proof on here suggest that as standard the Fabia VRS doesn't handle well at all.

Seriously the Fabia will get trounced by all foci, MK I or MK II.

I've driven a fabia VRS and a MK I Focus estate and a MK II Focus hatch (all dervs) the the foci p*ss all over the fabia with all of them as standard.

Which one a 1.7 or 1.9D or a DTurbo?

It might only be 91bhp, but in something that weighs the sum of f all squared that is a good power to weight ratio.

Just my opinion mate thats how I feel driving my fabia which is still standard and my modded focus which I drove for about 20000 miles, it seems to stick to corners better than the focus.

Fair enough, I'd have a search for Jason/Xav/Harry/Others fabia VRS pictures post roll.

The focus has always been at or near the top of the class for handling and the VAG efforts are usually more at the comfort end of that as standard.

Will do mate

Thanks

Hi there I'm looking to replace my wifes pug 205 diesel as it's seen better days. I have a octavia vrs and it's been the best car i've ever had, so we are now hooked on skoda. Question is , is the fabia as good as everyone says ? My wife does alot of miles so economy is a must , but she wants somthing sporty and small. What's the performance like? Whats the real mpg figures.

Ben

try both the Fabia and the Ibiza. Hell, try the LEON too :)

Is the Ibiza not a wee bit bigger than the fabia in length?

Oh I have all those columns too, just wasn't necessary to post em here :)

LOL LOL LOL, you are joking right? The standard handling I would describe as dangerous! A Focus leaves it for dead in every aspect of handling/comfort.

The standard fabia is 3970mm and the ibiza is 3977.

Do it best car I have had love it, although my mates still take the pi55.

Do around 600 miles a week commute to and from work, good mpg nowhere near what the lying trip computer says. :P

i cant honestly say its the best car i have ever owned the only thing is since i had my remap done i am looking at 35mpg and i would not say that i am thrashing it at that so something might be a little bit wrong ...

The Fabia vRS feels pretty quick and I used to get around 45mpg (actual) around town, about 410-430 miles between fill-ups. I found it to be quite capable on the motorway as well as at 70 it sits around peak torque

The Fabia vRS is over 4000mm :)

Well for a completely unbiased opinion.

GO on buy one, my remapped now returns 410 miles from Brim to Brim doing 40% motorway rest A & B roads. Whenever i drive other cars and get back into the furby, I think , ' YES back in a car I enjoy driving'

Well I was lying about an unbiased opinion. :D
