Where were you didn't see you on x fire, although lately I tend to lose all cordination when playing and get quite engrossed in it.

Oh and the missus demanded I "get off that friggin game, I wanna go on Ebay" last night so I may have missed you due to that enforced break I had :rofl:

Yeah seems not to cope to well with a higher load. Gonna have to disband it soon :(

Noob time .........

How does it work then is the server in your house or in a building elsewhere, do you build a rack and then fit it in someones data center ???

I am completely new to servers so go easy ....lol

Home computers is my bag !!!! none of this geek gear:D

The COD4 "server" I setup is a linux "hack" of the same game files you use on your PC.

The actual server hardware is at a datacentre in london. To further confuse, the linux server is one of many virtual servers running on the hardware.

So you build the box and then place it in the centre or do they take care of it all for you.

So you have a few thing running on the same box then???

And what happens if your box goes tits up, who deals with it ???

I have a server thats perfect to run it on, but don't have the bandwidth as i suspect is the case for many other people.

I think the only way we will get a good reliable briskoda server is to pay for one :(

12 player at INX gaming is: £11.98 pm

12 Player at Jolt is: £11.88 pm (payments can be split)

12 Player at Invision Gaming is: £17.99 pm

But i don't think we have enough people playing on a regular basis to warrant our own server as nice as it would be. You will all just have to come to my house and we can play on the LAN :P

Alternatively, you could all chip in and buy me a leased line and ill host it here :D

I don't mind chipping in it will only be a few quid each per yer

I don't want to go to OT, but;

It varies depending on who you chose for hosting.

With me I have my own box (second hand server) co-located at a datacentre. The box is split into different virtual machines to make best use of the kit. I have 6 virtual servers on the box doing different stuff... but they all share the same hardware (memory, CPU, disk).

What I can do is control how much resources each virtual server consumes.

Cool

It's good to have a little background info.

Any way back on topic !!

I am still only on at the weekends, to much work away at the moment.

Jolt was what I suggested earlier in the thread, I would be happy to do the sign up and I can put it through my company books :)

But who would be interested in actually paying to rent our own server, the way I see it there are (based on my own experience) only a few of us regularly online

Not trying to "dis" anyone, just not bumped into you yet. so that would work out at a couple of quid a month for everyone, which to be honest I would say iof we were to consider it, buy a 12 month deal as it's cheaper and everyone pay me back for the 12 months up front (be around £18 a head)?

what do you reckon

Would this server be soft(pussy) core or Hardcore? :P

And what happens if after 12 months we are bored of COD4 and the server simply does not get used. If it was going to be busy like the =MUK= server is then i would be more tempted, but 12 months is still a bit long

Appreciated, but then if you do it monthly then we have the problem of chasing people for their contribution each month.

noob question 2 .......

If we got bored could we change it to the next badass game we become addicted too

I think it would just be easier to jump on someone else's server. theres plenty of empty servers in the list we could use..

The problem is that we dont have enough regular players to justify a dedicated server. ive never seen more than 4 players on the Brisky one!..

Out of interest, what VS technology are you using?

I've been thinking about getting into xensource at some point :rubchin:

count me in as well if you decide to do it- costs less than a pint of beer a month, doesn't make you fat like beer, and improves hand/eye coordination, unlike beer :)

I find a little drink gives me the killer instinct needed for this game though so this could be a catch 22 for me.:rofl: More cod4= more drink not too much booze though otherwise it all goes a bit pete tong

I am the same.. i think the booze must calm you down slightly so your less jittery and on edge. Mind you.. i played bloody awful last night. On a packed TDM server i got 3 kills in the entire game :o

Have not seen much brisky cod4 action in a long time!

Think COD might be forced out now GTA4 is here... tho i havent got an eggbox :o
