Seat springs

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

I'm hoping someone here might be able to help me out.

I've got a W reg Octavia TDi Estate. I just started to look for the source of a rattle that has recently started coming from somewhere around or just to the left of the passenger seat. When I looked under it I found a spring lying on the floor. It wasn't obvious where it had come from so I had a look for an equivalent under the drivers seat and found that it was also lying on the floor along with a few bits if broken plastic clip.

So my question is: Does anybody know where these springs fit and what they do?

My car should still be under its Skoda used car one year warranty so I'm hoping to be able to get it fixed under that but I'd still be interested to know what they are.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Chris

Had the same problem, never did find what it was for. Garage wanted to take the seat out, but as it all works ok I said no. If you find what it is let me know.

Earlier thread "Loose Spring"

It's a tensioner spring for the seat adjustment mechanism - I think there is one on the other side of the seat so it may still work OK.

If you look under the seat one end of the spring locates into a tube pointing backwards, the other hooks over a flimsy plastic protrusion towards the front of the seat that 'always' breaks off.

That sounds like the beast. Can't really understand why it needs such a powerful spring on a flimsy bit of plastic.

I'm going to ignore it until the other breaks. Thanks for that
