Microsoft Excel forumula needed!!

Need some help with excel. The situation is:

Ive been asked to help out with lottery syndicate at work, but im only going to help out once ive worked out a way to do it easier. At the moment, payments and advance payments are written out on serviettes during break time, which brings tears to my eyes. What i need is a formula to do:

Payment is £4 a month, but some people pay in advance, so I want to be able to put the number of £'s that players have payed. So something along the lines of =IF the cell=4, the fill colour, or font should be green, if its not 4, then the fill colour or font should be red.

Havnt done this stuff for a while.

In a cell put the Price per month (I'll say A1 for this example)

Then list the names of people and the amount they have paid(In B3 down)

In B4 stick the following formula changing paid/unpaid to green/red

=IF(($A$1)/4 >= 1, "PAID", "UNPAID")

I've attached an Excel file that will do a years lotto for you, You put the amount paid each month against a persons name and it will summarise how up to date a person is.

I had to rename it to a .txt instead of a .xls so it would attach.

Hope that is approximately what you are looking for.

Why not just put 'paid' against each week? As much as I love writing formulas, I don't see the need for my syndicate.

See Attached spreadsheet :P

Your spreadsheet only works for Jan Mark as it turns to PAID as soon as Jan is 4.

I still don't see the need. Here's mine. The only formula is for winnings.

You see that month number at the top (E1) ;)

You change the month number that you are on (eg 1 for jan 2 for feb, 3 for march etc) ;)it works all the way :P

Conditional formatting will do exactly that.

Yep it's a nice feature that I used in the sheet.

Excel is a really powerful tool, with just a few niggles (1900/1904 date system on win/mac) and it's abilities are limited for huge data sets.

Some of the plug ins are amazingly powerful :)

Personally I would just have a single sheet with rows for names and columns for dates, and as people pay, you stick a X or some other symbol to say they've paid for that week. Anyone who's not paid isn't in that week's draw - simple as. I ran a book on the same principle in my old work, and although some people ran a debt up at times, the prize money retained for distribution helped with those late in paying. Was easy enough to admin though.

Maybe something is on the lottery website?

Cheers.

Anything is better than serviettes from the canteen! What makes it more awkward is that people who have left Waitrose are still in it, and pay up whenever they come in shopping, so one lady is £12 in credit :orb_rolli

If you have a look on the lottery website there is info for syndicates such as agreements - make sure you all know where you stand to avoid falling out if you win!

Ah - I'd not seen yours, sorry!

I do like Excel - I have a load of sheets set up to calculate things like projector lenses and screen gain requirements. On account of I do AV design.

I used to run the lottery syndicate at my last place of work, if you register your syndicate on the National Lottery website you can download their syndicate manager software. You just add all the members into it then enter how much each member has paid.. It works really well and can also link into MS Outlook for you to send out reminders to people who owe money. They also give advise on drawing up contracts etc. Better safe than sorry.
