AMD Remap anyone ?

only about 5mpg drop

front section Miltek, rear section could be anyone (Remus, Supersprint, Sebring etc). Be very careful what you buy backbox wise though. Yours is not a RS so DO NOT buy a RS system, it will be all wrong. Also make sure you buy one specific to a 4x4 as the routing round the rear axle will be different to other Octavias. Also note, it must be an Octavia one, due to the longer rear overhang compared to other VAG models (although possibly a Passat may fit if its a 4motion one)

TaviaRS - well reminded on the backbox!

The A4 I had was a Quattro (independent rear susp as well) and the Oettinger was a specific fit too.

Seriously impressed by the 4x4 Octavia in the short time I've had it in std guise - feels just as 'planted and grippy' as the A4 but the ride is better and the steering sharper.

Should have changed sooner !

OK - Remap, tyres, exhaust, maybe cruise, then 'its a Skoda honest' badge, in that order...

Fabpreza why not have one custom made for you? I am having one made by a company called Hayward & Scott in the next few weeks (good call by Jon). With this rear box I can any shape of tail pipe I like within reason.

Just a thought....

Fab, H&S who are making Lloyd's system are the ones who used to make the Scoobysport systems. They are next door to Scoobysport if that helps.

Lloyd, looks like you are the guinea pig again :D Might join you, as I want an oval tailpipe or one that looks very similar to the standard one.

No problems Jon always willing to boldy go where no RS has been before (and no I am not a trekkie).

I'll probably go for a tail pipe that is similar shape to the standard one but much larger...

Stick whatever you want on the back as long as it isn't a clone of the wonderful pair of rectangular tailpipes which grace the rear of the Senator 3.0 CDi 24V. I still love that car for what it does and the way it does it...

Janspeed in Salisbury make the new Scoobysport systems & they are "meant" to be better than the Hayward & Scott ones.

Re the 4x4 I am going to need a bigger pipe but am considering not cutting the back panel & trying to achieve a slight turn down, I dont want it to look like it goes & have had enough of great big noiay Zorsts from my scoob days. Anyone think of any reason why I cant.

Stuart

Sounds like a good plan Stuart!

Ian (Tavia4x4) talked about this a while ago and we reckoned something like the tailpipes of an A6 TDI would be good (2 x 2.5-3 " pipes, downturned behind the bumper). Nice and discrete.

Jon,

Can you explain why there should be a drop in mpg from a technical point of view rather than just user enjoyment. Is it really to do with back pressure.

Also is it less economical in the steady state cruise or just when using all the power. I would understand it in max power runs as you don't get something for nothing- the more mass flow and therefore power developed, the more fuel used.

Sorry to butt in, but I could get around 48mpg at 70-80mph on the motorway before the miltek and now I get around 38-40mpg. In town I get 24-29mpg.

Not at all, pleased to hear anything about this. Why should this be as the engine is more efficient with a less restricting exhaust? Have you asked Milltek why it is?

I currently get up to 41 with mainly motorway use at 70-80 but that drops to 36 if I do more round town driving. Avergae last 99.99 hrs on the trip was 40.

Any advice about fitting as I will probably go to a non- Milltek garage unless you advise otherwise.

Just recently Jabbasport have offered a new 2.5mm bore (is this the same bore as standard?) Cat-back system with a 150mm x 85mm (6" x 3.5" approx) single oval tailpipe, made by Jetex specifically for the Octavia RS. This size single oval is exactly what I'd be looking for :D , has anyone else checked this out, or even seen it in 'the metal'? I have to say Jetex were never a manufacturer that I'd really considered in past aftermarket forays, but maybe they make good quality exhausts, any experiences out there?

Mark D.

Mark,

I recall looking into this after Jabba said they were going that way. It is more expensive than Milltek I believe and for me I wanted a sports CAT as well as that is where the torque will come from not the fancy back end. Having said that I agree the single large bore rear sounds good if only Milltek did it.

Also it is not 3 inch which is supposed to give better results.

Is the Miltek exhaust 3" diameter? Anyone know the price of a full system from them offhand?

Duncan Miltek don't do a single rear tail pipe for the RS which is unfortunate. AmD have the system priced at

Seems I got this wrong, it is actually 2.5 inch when I measured it (not yet fitted). I cant recall why I thought it was 3 inch - thought that was in their general spec. Forge are doing the rear system for 220 incl. special offer. The Sports CAT and downpipe is 389 + VAT from AmD. Assue you mean the whole turbo back syystem? Not much point in doing one without the other in my book.

Yeah I would want to put the whole system on at once (or rather my dealer would , ill let the mechanics over there do the swearing!) but that doesnt mean i cant buy one bit just now , and the other bit when i have the cash! Might have to check out that forge offer , 220 squid doesnt sound bad , I could always put it on the coffee table just now in a 'Turner Prize' entrant stylee!!!

I got mine from Forge as I already have the CAT waiting to fit. Hopefully will fit this Saturday. Must say the rear box looks nice enough to me.
