Help Needed!! (07 Octavia VRS)

Featured Replies

I've recently picked up my Octavia and I'm looking for the best way to connect my Ipod to the AUX

If anyone could give me any tips that would be great!

(I'm sure you have already been over this a thousand times!!)

:thumbup:

Isn't there an input for this in the jumbo box?

Cost me £2 from the dealer for the lead to pug it in the AUX socket in the arm rest

Get one of the "Belkin" fm transmitter things if u want the easy option . . . then just tune it ito a spare freq on your radio

that was what I was thinking! cheers for that tho

If you are looking on Stu's site then it is possible to wire up the Aux as normal.

At the bottom of this page Octavia-vRS.com - MFD2 Install Guide it shows the connections for the Aux.

I use a Stereo 3.5mm Digital Audio Cable, Made for iPod™

these can be found at ZIP-LINQ Retractable Cables and Retractable Cable Accessories! and purchased through Amazon.

Rather than use the 'headphone' socket, they use the dock connector to give better quality and volume control.

Use Aux setting 1 on the Stereo in the car.

Why are there three Aux settings ? Is one better than the other ?

The 3 Aux settings are for the setting the line level in. It is used to ensure that you do not have to change the volume of the stereo much when you switch between radio and mp3 etc. The best one is the one that allows you to flick onto Aux without deafening yourself or the volume going so low you can hardly hear it.

I too have a retractable cable, purchased from ebay for about £2 just search for 'ipod 3.5mm connector' vand loads will pop up. Gives much better sound compared to going through the headphone socket.

It is about sensitivity of the aux input.

I would propose next procedure:

1. Set the volume of your source to middle;

2. Try which of the three sensitivity levels match to the radio/CD;

3a. If you fail to get enough volume even on the highest sensitivity, take up the source volume until match the radio/CD levels;

3b. If you get very loud sound even on the less sensitivity setting, take down the source volume until match the radio/CD levels;

This way you will get the best Signal-To-Noise Ratio, whilst preventing signal clipping :thumbup:.

Does this lead allow you to charge the ipod at the same time or does it completely fill the bottom socket on the ipod?

the lead will completely fill the bottom socket of the ipod. I have seen on ebay chargers that allow you to plug another connector device underneath it hence you would be able to charge the ipod and use the cable at the same time. If you use one od the leads from the bottom of the charger then the volume on the ipod will have not effect on the output level. Hence if following the setup procedure above you do not touch the ipod volume you just select the input level that gives you the sound level closest to the radio (I believe I have mine set to level 2).

Thanks for your help. Mine's not actually an Ipod but a simple mp3 player and it only appears to work through the driver and passenger side speakers rather than the four. It's probably me but what am I doing wrong ? I have a lead running from the headphone socket on the player to the car's aux socket in the jumbo (obviously) and that's it. Ideas please....
