Front panel under bonnet.

Featured Replies

Right,

Something I have been thinking about recently. Should the front panel on my car behind the grill be white? As you can see it through the grill.

Should there be a plastic panel over the top? Or should I be worrying?

I think that should be black tbh

I'm sure another white owner can confirm this as mine is silver so I can't be sure mate

HTH

Behind the grill on my 19 SDI all that is visible is the rad, Not sure if petrols are the same. Sorry

certainly looks a bit strange... thats a pre-face lift isn't it?

My 2001 vrs was black, but there is nothing to stop the previous owner painting it to match. There should be a load of stickers stuck on it, are they still there?.

Nope, nothing.

The slam panel is black I thought in all cases..... Certainly on my silver 2001 TDi i is, as this picture shows:

The stick on the left is about Air Con. and I can't remember what the two on the right are for.

I have an 02 VRS in Silver and my front panel is black also. I thought it was strange too but dealers say that thay are all like that though.

I thought mine might have been in a front ender because the

front of the car was too clean..... But that is how they come :)

On reflection, I think they may fit the slam panel after the engine/transmission :)

Yup its pre face lift, its a 1999 car so basically only the second year that they were sold in the UK.

Am getting abit worried now, everyone says it should be black.

My white vRS has a black slam panel, although it's a facelift model.

mine is post-face lift.... guess we need someone with a pre-face lift to comment....

I wouldn't be too concerned. The slam panel is black so you can't see it through the grill. If it is devoid of stickers, I would guess that it is a new panel and likely to have been replaced during repair of a prang (assuming you've not had the car from new). As others have pointed out, this bolts onto the front chassis legs and wings so an easy replacement.

If you are concerned, check other bits around the front of your car for inconsistencies in top coat colour on the bumper, the bonnet, the grille surround etc. If you can't find any faults whats to worry about other than a white bit showing under the grille.
