Confused about roof bars

Featured Replies

I need some decent (but not too pricey) roof bars for the Octy Mk1 2003 hatchback. However, I am a little confused. I looked on the Thule site which has a calculator to find the right bars. I don't know whether mine has the fitting points already in place or not? It seems to say I need :

£ 74.95 4305 Complete Load Carrier System (including locks)

Does this look about right? What have others purchased, and where from?

Unfortunately, my car is once again sat in my mechanics garage in a sad state. Until it's sorted, and I can get to "borrow" it again (;)), I don't remember what the mount point looks like.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Assuming they're the same as on my 2000, the roof bars fix to the roof through a claw arrangement on each foot. There is one fixed claw and a second moveable claw, which is wound in using a long allen key. I got a pair of genuine Skoda bars from the dealer at £99 IIRC, including locks. On these, all the lock does is fix the outside plastic plate over the 'foot'. Not very secure for the determined, but then again, I've never heard of anyone having their roof bars or load nicked.
