High Milage and Re-Mapping

Is it safe to re-map a 1.9Tdi Fabia with high Milage, say......90/100K. Thinking of buying a cheap high miler and giving it some poke.....................thanks. :)

Talk about opening a can of worms

I would say re-mapping any car of any age is a risky buisness. It all comes down to luck, and the orginal condition of vital compenents.

The parts most likly to fail from my experiance are the turbo or the clutch or the DMF.

I have all 3 of these fail and my car has only done 45k, it also depends on how you drive.

if you drive like me, expect big repair bills :D

At the end of the day if you find a good solid car, then i would see no reason not to re-map.

I asked this of a certain Master Tech and he advised against it, but as with all things, if you are able to repair anything that goes bang then it shouldn't be a problem :D

I too wouldn't bother, unless i knew how the car had been driven from new, even then its a big gamble, some items will be getting towards the end of their serviceable life, then you want to be increasing the load/stresses? you could be buying a big money pit!

If it's done 90/100k on the original clutch, be prepared to replace it shortly after re-mapping

I bought a cheap Fabia TDi and had it remapped around 90,000. I'm now on 118,000 with no major issues...

I'm still on the orignial clutch as well and there is no sign of it slipping yet (hope I haven't just cursed myself!)

Have you had a look at Neo VR's car in the For Sale bit?

Its got the high miles and the poke!

Hi

I again had mine mapped at 90k and on 112 now , with no issues

Have had 2 maps on mine :D all the way from me

Just have a turbo friendly map and you are laughing all the way

I got an extra 5mpg with mine too

It was rolling road tested and had 141bhp :D

My VRS had only done 22k when i remapped mine and the DMF and clutch needed doing as it was slipping when flooring at certain revs.

One idea would be to buy a cheap high milage VRS and then spend your spare dosh on a Bigger turbo, FMIC, SMF and then get it re-mapped!

The main differences is the 5 and 6 speeds

5 speeds dont seem to have the bother that the 6 gets

Is 90k - 100k really classed as high milage? esp for a diesel?

Mine had done 57k and I wouldn't have put any money on it getting to 100k. It did do those miles in 18 months but it got very old very quick.

My Golf pd100 on the other hand had done 112k in 2 1/2 years when I gave it back and that thing was as good as new (Apart from the shocks)

The engine should be good for 200K+.

I have 3 vw 1.9TD engined vehicles. My PD100 Fabia is the lowest milage at 128K miles, my Passat has 176K and my Transporter has 211K.

it should be okay to remap as long as you don't go too mad and that it is in good condition to start with.

TBH if the vehicle isn't and hasn't been abused, and its well maintained, then sure, go for it.

I know my Passat would be fine with a map, but my vRS Fabia had lots of abuse by me, and hence felt leggy at just 40k.

Put it like this if Superchips will only offer you a full warranty with their chip only for duration the car has full Manu warranty it says a lot.

I asked abou chipping a 150k one - sales man said no warranty and asking further he seemed very much like not wanting to make the sale.

like said above expect a new clutch!

aint too clued up on the 1.9 tdi, but my vrs has been remapped to 180 bhp and two days ago ate the DMF and clutch, car is buggered, so im having to going for the Helix clutch and SMF

if you get it mapped dont get a harsh one
