Headlight bulbs

Featured Replies

Right, strange one this, the fab emits a new beep as I get in it tonight, well actually it was a third beep as my washer level was low, so was the diesel!

Only worked out when I pulled on my drive at home that it was the left headlight bulb, knackered. So I've just changed it. Thing is I upgraded them to osram silver stars (think that's what they are caleld) about three weeks after I got the car (two years ago).

At the time I remember taking photos after I'd done one bulb but not the other, the difference was very noticeable. However tonight I can't tell the difference between the old stock bulb I've just put back in and the still working drivers star osram.

So my question is, does a headlight bulb fade for want of a better term, over time?

I was thinking I'd have to buy some new silver stars, but it looks like there's little difference between them and stock if what I've just done is anything to go by.

It may be your battery is a bit older plus the darker nights and mornings put a bit of strain on the battery anyway, Just a thought,

Yes bulbs do get dimmer the older they get.

AFAIK It's as the tungsten burns off the filament and deposits itself on the glass, the addition of noble gases slows this down and allows the filament to 'burn' hotter i.e. +50% Xenons and the like,

Try some of the offerings from Philips for a change. VisionPlus are really good X-Treme Vision are pretty good but not all they're cracked up to be.

Or try the new Osram Nightbreakers +90%

2 years out of a bulb is good going BTW:thumbup:
