Grinding noise when heavy braking?

Featured Replies

As the title says, when i have to brake very hard i get this odd grinding crunch of a noise coming from the front of the car.

Any ideas? Is a fabia VRS and it on original 16inch wheels and standard brakes but it has been lowered 25mm.

Any advise would be great:thumbup:

'Crunch' suggests a sort of instantaneous noise, whereas 'grinding' says a constant noise. If it is a constant noise, then what's the condition of the discs and pads? If the pads are worn out or the discs are heavily corroded, then I'd expect a kind of grinding noise if you were braking hard. If they're OK, it might be some grit embedded in one of the pads. If this is the case, you'll have a nice groove in the disc to show for it... :(

Its definatly a grinding noise, im wondering if its the sump getting nose dived to the floor?

Discs and pads are in good condition, which is a shame as it would be a good excuse to get 312's!:D

There are no groves in the disc's that iv noticed and i cleaned the wheels yesterday, Its a puzzler:confused:

A small stone wedged between the disc and the rear cover can cause 'grinding noises' but it would tend to be more all of the time than under braking but it might be worth checking.

I will check later, but it sound pretty loud, to loud for a stone i would of thought and i can feel it through the whole car

how much meat have the pads got left on them, the only time i have felt that sort of noise is when i have been down to the metal on the pads

They should have plenty as i only bought it in april from a dealer ( i guess they put new pads on it) I will have a good look tomorrow.

Anything else it could be? Its still under warrenty but i dont really want them knowing iv lowered it and if they'r poking around with the brakes im guessing they will notice the springs saying eibach on them :D

wouldn't have thaught they would replace them if they didn't need it at the time, they also wouldn't be covered under the warenty unfortunatly,as they are perishable items, like clutches etc,tho every cloud has a silver lining time for an upgrade maybe,312's anyone:D

Sorry, i didnt mean to say the pads were under warrenty, i ment if there was something else wrong thats making this sound. Il check my pads tomorrow and see what the score is.
