Trouble playing MPG's after downloading iTunes

Featured Replies

Recently, I downladed iTunes & part of this package you get QuickTime.

Now every time I want to download or stream a mpg video, it opens with QuickTime not Windows Media Player.

I've gone into the Preferences of Quick Time & de-selected the mpg options in File Types, but it still opens with QuickTime.

Any thoughts?

Hold down shift and right click on the MPG file at the same time, select "open with" and click what program you want to use. To make the change permanent, click on "choose program" then select the program you want from the list and click "ALways open with this program".

For mpg's that are linked, it only gives me the options of open link, open link in new tab or open link in new window.

Try going into windows media player, then tools and options/properties then there should be a file associations tab in there somewhere and just make sure that its selected to play them.

*cough* regedit *cough*

but only if you know what you're doing!

Control Panel, Then double click Quicktime.

It is possible to download quicktime without itunes from apples website, the link can take some digging out though. Just remember to do a custom install and only associate the filetypes you want. The download is on this page, just select the non itunes version.

Apple - QuickTime - Download
