Insurance / Cosmetic Mods

Do I have to declare to my insurance company that I have had my grille colour coded? I can't see what difference it would make, but you know what these insurance arseholes can be like.

Cheers. Presumably other little cosmetic mods / accessories (such as cupholders, sunglasses holders, pedals, blinds, aerials, gearknobs etc) also fall into the same category of things that don't need declaring.

I also fitted vRS 16" alloys on my car without declaring them, but if the worst came to the worst, I am willing to lie through my teeth and say they were on the car when I bought it and that I thought they were standard.

I wouldn't declare any little extras such as, cup holders, aerials etcetc, but then I wouldn't expect to be paid for them in event of a claim.

Alloys I would, I doubt it would make much difference to the premium (if any) especially since they're standard fitment on other models in the range.

Whatever you don't declare will not be paid out for, a set of vrs alloys are about £200 do you want to take that gamble (also the gamble of the insurance company claiming your insurance is invalid). :)

Any and all mods should be declared.

Only the performance and valuable ones will make a difference to your premium.

That's ridiculous. Would you notify them if you were putting an air freshener in, or a tax disk holder?

With my insurers, it costs £17.50 every time you want to make a change to your policy. To date, I would have spent about £250 telling them about my mats and sill protectors etc.

Nobody said anything about an air freshener or tax disc holder, (i know you are using an extreme example) But any cosmetic or performance modification that makes your car stand out from a std car should be declared, why:

you know what these insurance arseholes can be like.

Anything to get out of paying out!
