If your looking at Aero Wipers, go for the new VW upgrade range.

Ive just fitted some and there a doddle to fit, dont stick up like some do (where the arm fastens onto the blade) and are cheap!

does this type of wiper have any benefit other than aesthetics?

I think so, when i changed from the original to the new aero design the was a significant improvement.

To be fair though the original wipers had been on for 30K so possibly an unfair test

Honestly? No.

I have them fitted to the Roomy and I am not impressed. I really miss my PIAA blades I had on the Fabia.

I think the only advantage of aero-style wipers aside from looks is that they seem to last longer but no idea why. Performance seems to be on a par with non-aero wipers (with aerofoils).

I think there better than my others, they dont seem to smear as much, or judder.

Each to there own

I've always used Champion wipers on all my cars. They seem to last the longest. Had to change the original ones last week after only 10 months.

From VW dealers I take it? And what's cheap - how much? I have some cheap ones off ebay (~£12.00) and they are seriously crap :thumbdwn:.

I need to source some better replacements or just go back to std - I'm not interested in spending £50 odd on PIAAs etc.

You get what you pay for.

£47 from Demon Tweeks for the Furby. After 40k my PIAA's were still going strong which means they actually work out cheaper than standard

They seem better quality than ebay ones too..

Sorry if I'm thick, but do you get these upgrade wipers from VAG dealers or where? I think that is the question that teedeeye is still asking, I've seen the ebay ones - but some of them are called "VW upgrade wipers" as well. Still confused!?!

Ill take a pic tomorrow.

They are Genuine VW ones, ill post the partnumber in the morning.

I got the PIAA's and must say they do exactly what it says on the tin.

I believe they tend to last longer than most due to the fact you don't use them often due to the beading and the rain just shims off.

I am happy with them and yes they are expensive but hey only the best will doodle do.

For anyone that's interested, the PIAAs are inevitably available on ebay. This guy seems to be offering most size combos, with spoilers for £43.94 inc P&P. PIAA Super Silicone Windscreen Wipers SPORZA SPOILERS on eBay, also Wipers, Washers Jets, Exterior Styling, Car Tuning Styling, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 12-Dec-07 11:45:28 GMT)

A little extavagant for a pair of wipers IMO but as mentioned, could work out cheaper if you intend to keep the car for a few years.

This is what the forum is about :):):) it's taking objective opinions and information and using it to make your own choices!

Part Number is 1J2998002

No guarentee that they will be the same price, or have them in stock.

Like i said, take your pick, its a scary world of wipers out there!

The part No. quoted above is a conversion kit, so my local VW garage say, and they don't stock them!!

The latest Mk 4 golf wipers, according to the garage are the aero type and the No. is 1J2998003. Unless someone knows diffferent!

The parts guy did say that it was a pity they did not have acces to the Skoda parts/ codes as there are a lot of VW parts that fit the Skoda!! We live in hopes!!!1

So, does this kit include the arms as well??? I guess we're talking £100 or so if that's the case.

Really interested because I think the bit in the middle of the aftermarket ones I currently have looks pants.

I am currently using Bosch Aerotwin Retro Fit on mine and I find them great.

No idea about price because I wasn't sure at the time whether they were the right ones.

Phone your local VW dealer and quote the No.1J2998003.

That's what I'm using too, can't really fault them, other than the fact they're not lasting too well...but my mileage, and the amount of rain we've coincidentally been having up here, has shot up lately!

So I think I'll replace them soon with PIAA's (or more likely, the current Briskoda group buy) as I'm hanging onto the car.

Mine are comming off the car as soon as I get a chance.

As soon as the temperature drops below -5, they just become too stiff to flex to the curvature of the screen. Unfortunately for me, my screen has a dip right in front of the driver's eyes (and over most of the passenger side, it seems). On a morning as cold as this morning this means...

Motorway speed - ambient -5 and doing 70 mph. Go to clean windscreen and am left with a puddle right smack in the middle of the screen above the steering wheel. This puddle, of course, immediately freezes and I had to crouch down in my seat to see under it. Did I mention I was doing 70???

And after 10k with this set, they've start to scratch the windscreen to buggery. So back on the with the originals - as soon as it gets warm enough for the plastic not to crack...
