Brakes locking on

Featured Replies

Hi guys, my girlfriends car has become quite dangerous. It is a fabia 1.4 8v, sometimes when she drives it the front left brake caliper will just lock on and not relaease under any circumstances. However if you leave it over night it seems to be ok for another 5 minutes or five days. Flexi brake pipe has been replaced and the caliper fully checked. Anyone else had this problem or ideas as to what is causing it.

Sounds very much like some form of master cylinder fault. If so, you'll probably find that the opposite rear wheel is also braked. (Assuming Furbies have diagonally split braking systems).

That reads as if it locks on without the brakes been operated - if that were the case I would suspect the ABS.

If the brake sticks on (does not release fully after they have been used) I would go for a problem with the caliper, partially seized piston, pads seized in the caliper or stuck on the sliders. The problem is that you have had this checked and it appears not to be the case. It could be the master cylinder, does the right hand rear stick? as cars usually have dual circuit diagonally split fluid lines.
