Video Question

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just pressed the F2button when the laptop was staring up to have a look at the setup and the video setings are:

64MB

128MB (this is what it's set on)

MaxDVMT???

WTF is MaxDVMT and should I have it set on this?

Cheers people,

Ben

A quick search on Google reveals this...

"DVMT mode is memory that is dynamically allocated based on memory requests made by the application and are released back to the system one the application has terminated."

Don't know if its correct or not, but it would sound reasonable. So I'm guessing it dynamically manages the amount of memory available to the graphics card as opposed to fixing it at a certain amount.

That's about the size of it. It means it can use nearly all of your memory for the graphics controller.

Unless you're doing lots of graphics intensive stuff (i.e. gaming), I'd leave it as it is.

How much memory have you got in the machine? If it's 512MB or less, I'd screw it down to 64MB.

There is 2GB memory in the computer now.

So I should just leave it on 128 then?

Ben

2GB is loads, so you could crank it up to Max and you may well get a performance improvement.

If you're just browsing or doing office-y stuff then you probably won't see a difference. If you're doing graphics intensive stuff then you will. You've got enough memory to spare some more for the graphics. Try it and see? :)

Hi!

So I guess that I have the same Card as you (presumably Intel GMA). I was wondering what level I should set mine to, it is currently at 64MB and I am running XP, if I have 1GB of RAM. I am guessing that 128MB would be good, but any recommendations?

Also, what Bios menu is the Graphics area in. I am using Pheonix BIOS on an Acer laptop!

Thanks!

if you are only using the web and office apps, then stick it on 64mb because anymore is just wasting memory. I use mine which has a 32mb setting on this and it performs just the same for web/office.
