Bit of a non believer... but suprised! Cage Mod and general VRS big up!

Featured Replies

Had my Vrs for 2 months or so, has 37,000 miles on it now. 32,000 when i got it!

Start up as always been a little rough even missing a beat on the odd occasion, never really paid attention to it though. One thing i did notice was i was only getting 350 miles to a tank of diesel. This seemed slightly low and was a little dissapointed but it went well enough so couldnt complain!

Being a bit of a performance modder i got myself a green panel filter and pd160 intake, noticed a little bit of difference but nothing major.

Then read about the cage mod. Was rather sceptical about doing it but thought why not, popped into maplins and got me some silon grease stuff that was recommeneded on here. Put it on the maf plug and went for a little drive... didnt really notice much, started alot better though, Bonus!

That was a couple of days ago and just driving to and from work yesturday and today i have to say BLIMEY!!! It pulls right up to 4250/4500 revs and strongly, the power delivery is sooo much smoother and it is just soo much more fun to drive, the pick up is noticabley better!

Sorry for the essay but thought i d share my thoughts with you lot!

May have to get it remapped now and see what all the fuss is about!

another convert to the fold of the faithful!

So you notice an increase in economy as well then?

glad to hear you like it - still think it would be a great idea to take a tube along to Brisk meets... help you come up with a really great chat-up line for any single women.....

Not wanting to make comment just yet on fuel consumption but so far i m half a tank through and am suprised as to how many miles its done! crossing my fingers that it breaks the 400 mile on one tank barrier.

I will offer to lube up anyone who is in my local area! ;)

How much was it?

Did you do it yourself and was it easy?

Must do a search to see what your on about

yea have done it all myself. really not difficult to do! Unplug, lube up, plug in, unplug, repeat and then finish!

Cost £4! Bargain!

i might give this a bash seeing as everyone on here keeps raving about it, my car hasn't even hit 30k yet and is just about to hit it's 3rd birthday, cant see it making much difference to mine tbh.

You'll be surprised,

I've still got loads left. The offers there:thumbup:

worth a bash then

Defo worth a bash, I've noticed the pick up, and we only seem to manage 350 miles a tank of diesel, hopefully be looking to get some decent mpg when we go away for the next few days.

 scary...

seems to work for most peoples cars.

my Vrs has passed 31k, what is this about and is there a guide?

p.s. i know i could search but really should be doing some work!

- unplug MAF sensor (located on air box)

- gloop in a load of dielectric silicone grease into the plug (female side)

- plug it back in

- unplug again and repeat the above

That's it. Dielectric silicone grease is 4 quid from Maplin (get the tube not the aerosol).

Takes under a minute :D

is this something that could work on other types of cars with MAF's?

whats the actual thinking behind the mod?

It'll work on any MAF. As I understand it, it's just a way of increasing the insulation between the contacts so that "noise" is eliminated. I did it last night on the Mondeo but the jury is still out as to whether it's improved things - I'll have to see how it goes over the next few days....

ok, its just im half way through changing the oil cooler in my v6 (messy job!) and both that and my vectra have maf sensors, might give it a bash of the v6 while its in bits :)

TBH it won't do any harm on any electrical connector! :)

Hmmmm

wonder if anyone with vagcom could do logging to compare before/after.. im not sure how it would improve the performance/economy unless the plug isnt making good connections.

i dont understand how people only get 350 miles out of a tank... i get around 500, and kick its head in everywhere!!!*

* if anyone wants to buy my car... i dont really abuse it

I think it proves that cleaning products and waxes weigh more than dirt ;)

I have also found that i can only fill my car up with 40L of fuel at a time... tried pressing the air lock release thingy and got an extra 1L in! This is filling up with 15 miles left on on board comp and the guage on empty!

Thought the tanks were 45L?!

I can get 58 in mine if its totally empty.. usually fill it to around 50-53 (still that is a 56quid fill up  )

260 from my last tank :D

You'd think I got a petrol car, wouldn't 'cha. :(

I get get 500-600 from a 2.0 TDI even giving it some beans on the autobahns.

Bearing in mind you get sub 300 from yours I'm truely scared.

As for the silicone di-electric grease, it should help waterproof and generally keep clean most electrical connectors.
