new frount mount intercooler

Featured Replies

hey folks.

I'm wanting to fit a larger intercooler to my fabia. Basically looking at 2options the first is a a proper fabia forge intercooler with pipes which is roughly £600!!

or the other option is a universal intercooler which is roughly £100 then a pipe kit which is roughly another £100.

obviously the universal kit would save me alot of pennies!!

whats the opinions on this?????

p.s. will I notice much performance upgrades, I already have a remap, pd160, k and n panel filter.

cheers allan

Think the Forge one has a special core unlike the universal, may be get a Forge core and then your own pipe kit?

is the forge core just the intercooler on its own without the piping??

Yup Yup, dont know if they sell it like that, but heard of people just buying the intercooler bit

get a uprated clutch! (if you aint got one)

Where are you going to put your MAP sensor? It's plugged into the side of the SMIC. Though you can buy mounts for them to be welded into steel or alu pipe. No idea of costs for this sort of thing though...

I bought my Forge FMIC from Awesome for £480, as they have a special offer on at the moment.

It includes the cooler plus all the pipework.

thats a bloody good bargain

well... in comparison to their retail price anyway :)

You can get the Forge FMIC a lot cheaper either from Awesome or through Forge themselves. All I'll say is that Forge really do look after us guys. Excellent service. Ditto with Awesome!

As for the universal ones, I've heard that the core inside isn't as good as the porper FMICs, thus the cooling isn't as effective. The piping isn't £100, its a lot more once you#ve got the sensor etc to fit. So an ebay job will work out about 300 at least, whereas a proper Forge item is only a little more and its guaranteed to work effectively and you'll have help at hand.

hmmm ive been thinking about it for a while now and the forge route defo seems the safer option!!!

as for the map sensor, i never knew about this.

I'm assuming the proper fitment forge intercooler has the mounting for this???

p.s. £480 is cheap!!! I priced it from awesome at £519

the awesome deal is over, its full retaol price from them now, starts up again later in the new year:D

Yes, the forge one was developed and tested (on my car!) specifically for the Fabia vRS.. the kit includes all fittings and adaptors to fit the new pipework into the "quick release" standard pipework

You will need to get the remap done again as well no matter which one you fit to get the most out of the intercooler, you should include this in your budget.
