Help please with Brake Testing Values for Car Testing

Featured Replies

Howya,

Just wondering if anyone has the paperwork handy for the National Car Test (in UK or Ireland), I wanna know what the limits are and what results your car got.

Please specify Make & Model of your car.

If anyone knows how this testing is done it would also be appreciated, i.e. is it a progressive test or does it just put the pedal fully in and take a measurment.

I'm not happy with my brakes, they have been tested (AFAIK they passed), I have to get the result but it would be great to have something to compare it to.

Phil (piv34uk) is an MOT tester so will probably be able to help you. My understanding is they test the "effectiveness" of the brakes by braking the car on some rollers, but I could be wrong :D

Cheers, I'll try him.

Btw Can someone give a breakdown on the sizes brakes & pads used on the Octy's, would I be right in saying that vRS has bigger brakes & Pads than the rest of the range...and hence should be better.

IIRC VRS has bigger discs at the front and vented discs at the back. I think the front pads are the same but not 100% sure on that.

So to say the brakes "passed" a brake test means nowt really would it (just means they are above the legal limit). As this is the bear minimum and wouldn't necessarily be a model specific pass value. To really know if theres an issue they would need to be compared with a similiar car.
