Can a broken slider on CD Changer cause car battery to drain?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a Fabia Sport 1.2l.

It has a 6 disc CD Changer under the front passenger seat. Recently I noticed it wasn't opening properly (Jamming), so tried to unjam it and something broke or came loose. There is a metal cover that resides underneath the plastic door, and for the life of me I cannot get it back in place.

On the same day, I left the CD Changer and decided to replace the car radio with a Blaupunkt Hamburg MP3, USB, CD player... The plug connectors on the back of the blaupunkt were exactly the same as the Symphony, so I assumed it would be the same, however the CD Changer did not work. Everything else works fine.

But I notice everyday when I get into the car, the second I open the door, the CD Changer starts to initialize. Not sure why, since it does not work.

The Problem:

Two weekends in a row now, I have not used my car, only to discover on Monday morning just before I need to go to work, that the car battery is dead. So dead, only AA can restart it! (Bloody annoying)... It happened again today, only this time the car was unused since Friday Night.

So I am wondering, could it be the CD Changer drawing all the power, or could it be the new radio I put in recently? The problem definitely started since the new radio went in, and/or the same day the CD Changer door jammed.

But the CD Changer initializing each time I open the car bugs me, because it definitely doesn't work with the new radio.

I have since replaced the radio with the original Symphony radio to try and see if the problem still exists (which means I might be on this forum next weekend again saying the battery is flat, in which case it could the CD Changer or the Alternator - The AA confirm the battery is fine).

I have tested the CD Changer and it plays all my CD's just fine. My thoughts at the moment is perhaps because the CD Door is broken, that it has something to do with the draining of the battery.

Anybody experience a similar problem, if so let me know, or if you would like to comment, then please do so. Any suggestions will be welcome!

Cheers,

Mike.

P.S. Biggest mistake of my life was selling my Vrs. It never had problems like this.

The CD door is just a bit of plastic, I don't think it has any electrical connections.
