I was working it out , and the better residuals mean that if you get a decent deal on a 320D it works out not that dissimilar to an Octy.

That remains to be seen. I have lost half my Octys boot space, so things are going to be very interesting/tight for a while.

Residuals are pretty good, but I did haggle nearly 14% off, so it remains to be seen how much effect that will have. BMW are reducing the dealer’s margins in a few weeks time, so this should help shore things up.

I'd be interested how you get on. I had a 120 petrol auto as a hire car, and loved the handling, hated the engine (not powerful enough- or at least didn't feel it), the autobox (changed down on a whiff of throttle), the (non-sports) seats (gave me backache), the woeful economy, and the no-one letting me out. I'd imagine the manual and diesel in yours will fix most of those issues. Do you have decent seats?

I think the next car SWMBO gets will be a BMW due to the lack of a vRS Fabia :(

Oh Gawd, there is pressure on me to make the meet this month. I’m travelling back from Scotland on Thursday but should be able to make it, unless I opt for sleep.

Unfortunately I am running it in relatively sensibly so I wont be up for a proper thrash…………………..yet. besides, RWD and icy winter weather don’t go together too well.

If I am honest, the car feels like a Skoda ‘plus’ if you know what I mean. It isn’t as big as the Octy, but it is a bit quieter, a bit smoother (the engine is a lot smoother actually) the controls are a little nicer to press, the handling is a little tidier (haven’t tried anything heroic yet) and the finish is a little bit better (only a little). It also doesn’t feel mahoosively quicker than the Octy, but part of that is down to the smoothness of the power delivery. It is a better drive than the Octy, but not by ‘as much as BMW would have you believe much. It does feel a little special though:)
