Delivered yesterday....problems already!

You could just take it to another dealer if you have one nearby?

I think I know where they're going with this one, I've heard about mazda dealers tring to do the same thing. The dealer claim should be that they'll only support the use of CDRs and CDRWs marked with the "Compact Disc Digital Audio" symbol. And how many of us buy those?

I don't, just buy a cake of cheap ones, burn a CD and use till I'm bored with it and then dispose.

Unbelievable behaviour!

CDRs, warranty trouble, £500 deposit?! Time to name and shame the jokers in my mind....

Please post back on how Skoda UK react.

Steve

I've had a similar trouble with my Stream head unit in my 05 4x4. So thought I'd add my experiences.

It wouldn't eject CD's properly, it turned into a real game trying to get a couple of finger tips on the disks before they were sucked back in again. These where standard retail type CD's too. eventually it just wouldn't eject and came up with a no cd or cd error message.

Took it back to the dealer, got the same bull about using writable CD's and how its not covered by the warrenty, but being armed with the results of a quick google search for the problem brought up a few posts on forums about the Stream unit - at which point he admitted that they do have faults! so they changed it under warenty for a new unit.

All great, except that it won't recognise the multi changer now!

But more interestingly, it's the second time now that it's been upgraded, the first time was because there was a re-call on the radios as they have a habit of draining the battery if the car isn't used for a couple of days.

Update, for those who still have the will.

So spoke to Skoda Customer Services today and after a swift huddle, this was their response.

Having explained the problem, they require more diagnosis before they can advise whether fault covered by warranty or not. However, despite what the manual says, there is a known issue with CD-R's & if the disc is found to be at fault then the likelihood is that the repairs will not be covered.

As to the dealer charging £500 up front, they neither encourage nor discourage this practice but can see why he has done this in case the repairs are not covered.

So there you go, you have been warned. If you stuff cheap CD-R's or cheese sandwiches or anything other than bog standard pre-recorded cd's in your unit and it goes wrong, you will be liable for the cost of the repair.

This on a three day old car & £20K odd out of pocket.

Shocking.

Clearly tell them that the manual CLEARLY states CD-R's may be used. As Skoda and/or the dealer made no mention of this supposed change that should be in the latest manuals.

Get hold of the manager at the dealership, and advised them they either fix it, or you'll reject the car and go to trading standards.

Mentioning you've mentioned their name and this matter on here might help too ;)

Get used to it, this is the general standard you can expect from Skoda and there dealers.

That is appalling. I would be tempted to reject the car, and seek a full refund.

Not all dealers are like this. Remember YOU're ther customer, and can easily take your business (and lucritive parts & servicing) elsewhere!

It's the way I'd go. Kicking off in the showroom on a busy Saturday morning would be the best time to, in a Trigger Happy TV show phone answering style, discuss this with Dealership manager on the shop floor

Thats a bloody joke!

A CD-R is a CD-R whether a premium brand or a LIDL special. They all need to be made to a standard or they won't fit into the slot. What can a cheap CD-R actually do to a CD player?? not a lot in my opinion

I would try another dealer if necessary or speak to someone at Skoda CS who isn't a general monkey and demand that your brand new £20,000 is put right.

Keep the rejection option open as it's a pants filling phrase for some dealers.

Total ****** this :thumbdwn: shame on you SUK!!

*EDIT* I will echo the comment that all dealers aren't the same, my local dealer has always been excellent with a few warranty claims but it should be a consistent standard at EVERY dealer in the country and not just some random made up crap about CD-R's and voided warranties. The fact it has 'MP3' emblazoned across the unit is a giveaway, how often do you buy MP3 CD's in the shops????

That's my little rant over with - for now.

You haven't moved to my neck of the woods have you cazgar? Your dealer, and the Skoda CS response, sounds much like the responses I had when there was an issue (not MP3/CDR/£500/RipOff related) with my £20k L&K DSG TDI.

Maybe the more you spend on a Skoda the less you get in customer service. I never thought of it that way but you never know.

I'm afraid I was a first time Skoda buyer earlier this year. Turns out I'm a last time Skoda buyer too now. Oh well, you pay your money and take your choice. Stupid us thinking £20k entitled to us to a little respect.

I wouldn't be at all happy with that SCS response, to put it mildly!

I'd be back onto them voicing that this isn't a satisfactory outcome and that would want to take the matter further, with someone more senior within SUK. What's the point of writing and supplying a manual, a reference document provided for guidance and general good practice, if it can't be followed?!

Whereabouts in the country are you? Perhaps we can then advise on another dealer to discuss this with, in the meantime.

Can't believe we're even discussing all of this to be honest. It's ridiculous...

Steve

Spoke to dealer it came from today, apparently because cd is recorded CDR rather than pre-recorded, this may invalidate the warranty!

Brilliant. First sign of 'i've got your money, go away, leave me alone' attitude.

What a dumb ******.

Personally, i'd hand the car back, demand a courtesey car and expect the problem to be rectified and not budge until they agree. As for handing over £500 - that just sounds like a scam.

Car purchased from dealer in Bath, **** Turpin waving his musket in my face is in Gloucester.

The shame of it is, is that in every other way, the car is as good if not far exceeds my expectations.
