Delivered yesterday....problems already!

Featured Replies

Octy estate 2.0TD L&K delivered yesterday......fabulous.

Inserted cd into audience 6cd in dash multichanger following the instructions, cd started to play then stopped, then started making a whizzing noise and eventually came up cd error. Now it won't play or eject but just whizzes & comes up with error message.

Spoke to dealer it came from today, apparently because cd is recorded CDR rather than pre-recorded, this may invalidate the warranty!

Has anyone come across the same problem or have any advice on how to eject the disc?

What is the point of having an mp3 compatible cd player if you can't play CDR's. Does it say in the handbook not to use CDR's? I must admit I haven't checked.

Great car but experience slightly soured already.

I took delivery of mine last Friday, loaded it up with 6 Rewritable CDs full of mp3 files, they all play just fine.

Can't check the manual as the manual for the radio (Audience) is missing - dealer is posting one to me.

I call bull on the CD-R as my audience unit plays them just fine as do the skoda stream units.

CD-RW maybe, but CD-R are fine.

Don't know how to force an eject but I have been using CDrs in both my head unit and auto changer since new - June'06 with no problems.

I reckon the dealer is just looking for a way to charge you for a warrentee repair, stick to your guns and don't be afraid to quote the forum

What a load of tripe from the dealer - are they called Trotter's Indifferent Transport Specialists by any chance?

Invalidate the warranty my ****! What a load of bull....

My (stream) manual says you can use both CD-R and CD-RW as long as the discs are finalized.

The only thing it does mention is that 'CDs exposed to direct sunlight or extreme temperatures can warp and lock in the player'. There's no mention of how to overcome this however!

Don't try to force it, just give it back to the dealer to sort out.

Prof.

Give it back to a better dealer to sort if this one wont.

Ok, thanks for the response guys. Booked in at the dealer for a looksee Thursday. Will update after that.

Agree - what type of cd has b*gger all to do with it - wharped or broken cd maybe, but not because it is a cdr/cdrw/shop bought. I put in a disc the other day that obviously my PC had messed up when writing to it as it wouldn't play. Error came up on the display but I can still eject it.

I would be speaking to the service and/or sales manager. That is a truly silly comment about CD-R's.

Failing that, a phone call to Skoda UK to stri things up a little.

Page 10 Audience manual "Your radio is fitted with a built-in changer for 6 CD-DA, CD-R, CD-RW discs containing mp3 or audio files."

Page 18 of manual "Your radio can also play recordable CD-R discs and re-recordable CD-RW discs as long as each writing session has been properly finalized."

The red mist is starting to descend.

On the brighter side, also found Page 132 owners manual "lengthy and uneven distribution of air flow out of the vents.....................can result in chills in sensitive persons." Very touching.

Have you reviewed your dealer in the appropriate section yet?

Might be worth a look in that direction sometime.

The dealer comment is an obvious sign they have no idea about the products they flog and a poor attempt to fob you off with the dreaded 'W' word that scares many people away.

Very poor :thumbdwn:

Have you tried ejecting while the radio is turned off, might be worth a try as it might not try reading it first ;).

Update.

Have tried every way I can to eject disc to no avail.

Have read dealer review & gets reasonable response. That's gonna change considerably if I continue to get the level of service that I am.

Have booked car in next week at dealer closer to home. Despite quoting them from the manual (see my earlier post above), they require £500 deposit before they will start work to cover themselves in case work not covered under warranty.

Thats completely outrageous!!!!

Phone Skoda uk CS, Tell them your car is less than 24hrs old, What can they do about it. Would try the nicely nicely approach as opposed to the all guns blazing attack.

Also tell them you are unhappy with your dealers attitude towards you.

Hope it all gets sorted soon for you.

Agreed! This dealer either doesn't know what they are doing or does't care about their customers!

It sounds like the £500 is to prevent you from turning up!

Check with other nearby dealers first! A couple of years ago I found out that one of our local dealers was being threatend with loosing their franchise because of poor service & poor finacial management. They tried a similar trick on me! There was something about them having to pay for parts upfront (even if they were warrenty claims) and then claiming back from Skoda after the event! I've seen that sort of behavire where busnesses are refused credit etc

You can guess I moved dealer very swiftly!! Not sure the new one is much better, but at they don't try to take money out of your wallet before you get on the premisis (they wait until you are sat down in nice comfy chair):D!!

WHAT! £500 to cover themselves?

If they are that worried they can keep your headunit if it turns out to be a problem of your making, then you can pay them to have it back, repaired.

My goodness, some people. Talk about keeping you sweet for future business. More likely how to drive yourself out of business.

And I thought my dealer was down there, the only snake in the grass! Looks like someone joined them.

Hi

We have CDMP3 player without changer unit. MP3 on CDR play OK, there has been one time when we had "CD error "on the display, and that was when the inserted CD had MP3 recorded in different folders, but ours did eject.

The dealer needs reporting mate, I've never heard such **** in my life. Mine plays cdrs perfectly.

Of course since the manual says it can play CD-R's and the deal;er says it can't surely you could reject the car as not being as described ;)

Not a serious option, but a totally valid one. This would almost certainly put the ****s into your dealer as they would be left with a car they have to sell on as used.

I'd give CS a call and see what they do.

Thanks cheezemonkhai, who is CS? Saw a previous reference in this thread to Skoda CS?

I have to say great car but the whole experience has been clouded by this problem. Also how am I going to keep the kids quiet over Crimbo without being able to play cheesy christmas classics?
