Ice on inside of windscreen :(

Featured Replies

My old Passat PD allegedly had electric elements in the heating system to give a faster warm up. It did indeed start to produce warm air within 1/2 mile.

Does the FL Octavia PD have any such system? Not had a very cold morning as yet to put it to the test. But one day I'd to stop just after pulling out of my driveway with a suddenly misted up interior. Not recurred as yet.

Ask them to seal the door carriers (If they want a charge you can buy the sealant from them and DIY it) and also change the pollen filter for a new one.

The first lets lots of water into the car when it rains and the latter reduces air flow such that it doesn't clear very quickly.

Trying to recall if that was one of the actions they claimed to have done before...how can I tell/is it an easy DIY job. I am not keen on taking off trim etc...not that way minded (or skilled !)

I know the filter was checked before.

Need to find a solution as it's a chronic problem that spoils the enjoyment of an otherwise good car!

Did your car stink of sealant/solvent after they claimed they had done it for a day or 2? If not it probably wasn't done. They will often check for a leak but not seal all 4 doors.

The pollen filter should be changed every year and it's easy to do and a cheap part (less than £10 from your dealer). A quick search on here should explain how to do it.

The sealing of the carriers is basically down to taking off the door trim and seeing if there are lines of black sealant on it.

For that much water to be getting into the car it has to be coming in somewhere.

I'd check all your ddoor seals and boot seals are in good condition and also make sure there is no water in your spare wheel well.

Thanks - I don't remember a smell...so probably not done then?

I know that the seals on the door & more so the boot are always wet, but don't seem to let the water past - so presume that they are working as they should.

When I've checked the spare wheel well is always dry & indeed there are no signs of damp/wet bit anywhere in the car (except the windows of course !!!)

I know when it rains, the water sometimes runs of the tailgate into the boot when opened - a characteristic I am told (poor design/fault is what I'd call it !)

Anyway, I'll check out the sealing option (+ the filter)

As long as water is only on the outside of the door seals and not inside then you're ok on that front.

Well worth paying to have the carriers sealed if you can't DIY as the water seems to flow over the door carrier seal in heavy rain and into the car.

If you have some silicon grease or a suitable lubricant, try putting some of this on the door seals and gently rubbing it in. I'd try this stuff:

IIRC you can get it from BMW dealers, but it's available online too.

My FL Elegance PD doesn't seem any different to my previous non-FL Elegance PD in that respect - unfortunately.

I must say mine gets quite bad condensation aswell. I was putting it down to the rubber where the wiper on rear window comes through, as sometimes you get a small water bead run from that point inside the window after boot is lifted.

At least in Finland the PD models have it, but based on previous discussions here, I believe this is yet another case where UK imports are not "up to spec" for the UK climate.
