Couple of questions

Featured Replies

Hi folks! I'm back with a couple of questions regarding the rear light cluster on my wife's car...

mothra.jpg

It's not too clear on this picture, but somehow a moth has got into the bottom corner of the reflector for the reversing light and died (it's practically mummified now!), but:

1. How on Earth did it manage to get there?! :D

2. Any suggestions for getting it out other than taking the whole cluster off?!

TIA

Taking the cluster off isn't a mamoth task. Can't see how you get it out any other way.

Fairy snuff - was worried I'd end up dismantling half the rear end, but I'll have a go and see where I end up. SWMBO isn't bothered at all, but the obsessive compulsive in me starts convulsing every time I go near the back of here car so I don't think I'll be happy 'til it's out!!!

It's just 3 nuts and the cluster comes off. Once light "bar" is removed, as per checking bulbs, they're easy to see. You can wash it out under the kitchen tap and have it back in 5 minutes. Probably a good idea to look at the bulbs to see if any are getting a bit blackened and save yourself a job later.

I wouldn't wash it out under the tap, it'll take forever to dry out and you could finish up with watermarks on the inside of the lens and on the reflectors.

If the moth is dry it should be possible just to shake it out of one of the bulb holes.

Alternatively tape a short length of hose to the end of a hoover and vac it out

Might be tricky, but I like your thinking...

I know B&Q do silicon tubing (like aquarium airline) in a range of diameters/bores, Flexible yet rigid enough to control

How about one of those "lost nut retrieval tools " - (sits back and waits for some comments from the ladies:rofl: )

Maplin cat no BN98G or N24FA -about £4

I'll just have to if it's stuck there in any way. Taking off the cluster and shaking it out is probably my favourite option, as it's free (Christmas and all that...) but if that won't budge it, one or other of your suggestions might have to be investigated.

Or I could just try and forget about it... ;):D

Still wouldn't have minded finding out how it got there!
