Buying from a Skoda Dealership...

Featured Replies

Ok apologies if this is in the wrong section feel free to move it.

Basically I have been talking to my local skoda retailer. They have been searching dealer stock for me to find the vrs I am after. this morning I get a phone call from them saying am I still interested in a black vrs. yes I say, they reply that they have found a car in the skoda UK system but its at a dealership miles away from me and that if they were to buy this in for me to purchase they would require a deposit to guarantee the fact that I would purchase from them. The car comes with 12 months skoda warranty and RAC cover. the car is a 2004 54 model with 30k on the clock, 1 owner from new, full skoda service history and is in great condition according to the young chap at the dealership.

My question is would any of you be prepared to put a deposit down in this situation. the car would be completely given the once over, valeted etc b4 I pick it up and if there was something mechanically or physcially wrong with the car then the deposit is refunded.

Advice appreciated as my head is confused

I wouldn't personally - if they want your business then they'll have to take the gamble. After all, what's to stop you looking on the Skoda used-car website and going and buying the car directly ;)

My local VW dealer helped me out when i was trying to find a used Polo GTi a few years ago...... They asked me to find 3 or 4 off the VW website and take the details to them then they phones around and managed to find one of them that was still for sale..... They then bought the car and brought it up here, (Car was at a dealers in Brighton).

I then got to have a full look round the car before saying yes or no.

I didn't have to pay a deposit etc till i'd decided on whether i wanted the car. Now i know the Polo was different cos they were like rocking horse **** and the dealer knew they could sell it in a week or so anyway but i'd still be loathed to put a deposit on a car i'd never even seen.

Although it seems a little confusing what the dealer is telling you...... He's asking for a deposit before they get you the car as though it's "If we order it you've got to have it" but then they're telling you that if anything is wrong with the car you can have the deposit back!!!:confused::confused:

Cheers

Dave.

This is what he has said to me on the email:-

"To your Questions, deposit would be £300, as you would be buying from a retailer anything mechanically wrong that is not wear and tear ,eg ,tyres, brake pads etc. would be repaired free of charge and replaced with original parts, for 12 months, any small dents or scratches would be repaired before you collect the car, if there was any, though our approved body shop. We would be selling this car to you for £6,995 which to be fair, is well below the retail figure, and is the bottom line. No pics at the moment but if you like to look on the Skoda website they will have some pictures on there"

I dont think he will tell me which dealership it is at and if its miles from me then I am not going to look at it - I dont have the time tbh.

This car is over my budget by about £400 and there is a private one on Autotrader for what I can afford but I would prefer to buy through a dealer.

ARGH! I dont get it

get them to promise to fix any wear and tear items,if any and bite his hand off, they allready say the car will be very tidy, and they will put it through there bodyshop if its not,i hink you are in a win win situation here as if there is anything seriose wrong they will sort it under the 12 month warenty,i have never seen a low milge example like this, this new sold by a dealer for this sort of money, this is a steal:thumbup:

you guys really are so helpful. I have gone back to him and said that if he can completely give the car the once over, repair any paintwork blemishes etc and go to £6400 which is my budget he has a deal.

thanks guys

Considering the mileage, £6995 is well below anything I can find on the Skoda site! Cheapest is a Nov '04 for £8k with 57k miles. I'd be interested to know why he's happy to do it that cheaply (is it accident-repaired/cat D write off or something?)

Chris

lol £6400 on what is probably allready the cheapest dealer suplied skoda in the country,i admire your cheek:thumbup:

found a few on private sales, but all have more milage or are older, some say reserve not met so can't really tell what they want for them.

nope car is clear nothing on it accident wise i just asked him for his base price at the end of the day he doesnt have to advertise the car anywhere to sell it as he thinks he has a done deal with me - his only cost is trailoring the car down.

Hope you get the car ok...... We got our other vRS from Hitchin in Hertfordshire!!!!! and the CTR that we were selling went to a lad in Leicester so it's not uncommon these days to not shop local.

Dave.

If its over budget. Haggle.

Don't be scared of buying outside the dealer network. You can always have a car checked if you know what to look for or if you have a mechanic/friend who knows what to look for.

They'll be getting the car at a cheaper price anyway.

You do get your deposit back of theres anything wrong with the car.

Mention to the dealer that you have seen one at that price

See if they can have the car brought to the dealership in question so you can look and test drive it.
