1.4 fabia

Featured Replies

Hi I am new to this forum and I have just bought a 51 plate fabia but the rear washer has stopped working and the boot wont stay up when opened

I did have a little orange light come on the dash(something to do with tansmission) but its gone off now

Any help would be welcome

cheers Sharon

your rear washer isn't working cos the pipe has come off i would bet, this is a common fabia fault, and if you locate the offending pipe you can just pop it back on.

Also sounds like the boot struts may be leaking which prevents the boot staying up - quite a common fault too. Little orange light is the "check engine" light and it should log a fault code on the car which can be looked up by the people at the dealer or by someone on here with VAG-COM. If it's gone off it may just have been a one off, but good to look at it for certain :D

Further to these things, there are two connections for the rear washer: one (I think) at the engine bay bulkhead; and the other (I know for certain!) behind the plastic trim at the side of the NSR seat backrest. If the NSR passenger footwell is wet, it's the second one! If it turns out to be neither, check the nozzle is clear with a pin.

The gas struts are a simple unbolt and replace job (although you may need a helper to hold the boot lid up while you do it, and you'll need a Torx bit / driver

As has been said, the engine management light may just have been a one-off (as happened on my wife's Fabia 1.4)

Hope you enjoy the car, and if anything else starts playing up, you'll be glad to hear that a search on here should lead you to the answer for just about any problem!

Defo two connections as said above. Though the wet footwells in the rear could be due to leaking rear door seals - a warranty thing if still in warranty. Cause of the pipe coming off also open to debate --think there's a warranty fix on here somewhere (they stick a clip on the joint ) , but if you get that done make sure ther'es no chance of the washer liquid ever freezing - as also posted elsewhere (think it's same place ) --it could damage the motor.

Good point, well made! Leaky rear doors usually mean that a little puddle forms on top of the rubber seal at sill level, and if it's out of warranty, there's a guide by VRStu / Lummox, here! (Although I don't want to scare you with all the details of what might go wrong with your car - most people's are pretty hassle-free!!! :) )
