Stereo Advice

Featured Replies

I am after replacing the stereo in my Mazda.

The one at the moment does not play MP3's and does not have aux inputs.

I don't want to spend more than around £70.

Also it would be nice if it illuminated green to match the dash lighting in the Mazda.

Any advice is much appreciated.

You will struggle to find anything decent for £70, indeed at that price it may well sound far worse than the factory system. Save up some more, and get something for around £200, untill then just burn normal CDR disks and use the HU.

There is no "factory" system.

At the minute it has a JVC cd/radio that costs around £40

Not too bothered about the sound quality, i am happy enough with the quality of the one that is in the car already. Just want to be able to play mp3 off the disks really.

The sound quality debate is a non starter anyway. The car is a convertible so not the best car for listening to high quality audio in, either with the top up or down.

this is what is in already

I was looking at something like this

However i like the look of this one but it is a bit more

One final thing. The car is equipped as standard with Bose Speakers and i don't really want to change these.

For £70 buy a second hand or manufacturer graded item.

If you can stretch to the £100-£125 price bracket you should get some reasonable units that can play MP3 CD's.

Car Audio Direct - The UK's leading car audio and stereo resource.

That one is a Christmas special and the offer ends on the 28th December.

It can play MP3 CD's and comes with an iPod connector for £120.

Oh and yes that pioneer unit you have is quite good, but IIRC it is a model that has been around for years now (I think it, or a variant of it was out in 2001/2).

How about one of these? Only a tenner over budget and has built in Bluetooth for your phone. If you don't require Bluetooth and would rather save some money, how about this or this?

Have you tried th usual MX5 suspects for cheapie units - like Adnrew Stott at Autolink

AutoLinkUK

(Panasonic CQ-C1301 CD & MP3 tuner RRP £130 Autolink proce £60)

Thanks for all the advice, some nice sounding head units there for my budget. I really wanted one that illuminates green though. My dad has already given me a Sony CDX-F7500 for free. But it needs a new cage to be able to fit it.

Not sure if i may still be best using that but as i said it does not light up green:(. This is the one :-

Sony : CDX-F7500 (CDXF7500) : United Kingdom

What are peoples views on Blaupunkt car audio???

I like the plain look of most of them and some of them come with multi colour displays to fit in with whatever colour dash you have. What is the sound like though?

At the moment i am thinking of one of these two:-

Car Audio Direct - The UK's leading car audio and stereo resource.

or

Car Audio Direct - The UK's leading car audio and stereo resource. Kenwood KDC-W3537G - Kenwood KEN-KDCW3537G

After much deliberation we fitted a Blaupunkt Hamburg to my brother's car last night. The unit is built extremely well and sounds good through the standard speakers.

I have had a look at that one, it looks ok. Not sure if it illuminates green though but i may consider it for the Bluetooth function. It sounds as though it has better functionality for making calls than the other Sony one with built in Bluetooth.

It doesn't illuminate green.

The screen is white and the buttons and red.

So far call quality using Bluetooth seems excellent.

I like Pioneers offering, so I'd go with that.

Had many a cheap Pioneer, and never been disappointed. :)

pioneer deh-p40mp,seen it for 70 buck,i own one,it has a 2x preouts and 2x aux inputs,it also sound pretty good, not many functions for altering treble though
