Changing tyre size

Featured Replies

Had my rear tyres just changed and the garage mentioned they were sure my wheels could take bigger tyres but as I didn't say yes to it they put the same 205's on. Now I come on here to check and find it could take 225/45/17.

Why did Skoda put such strange size tyres on the vRS? My front's need doing soon and now either have to do the same 205's or do the whole lot to 225's and waste the money spent ont he two rears i've just bought :(#

Is there any noticeable advantages to going to 225/45/17?

Also noticed a lot of people have said that the early vRS's had 16" wheels on them. Mines a 51 plate and has 17" wheels, was it an optional extra then as I though they came 17" as standard

If you join freedom, there is a tyre comparision chart you can use to compare tyre sizes.

Most of us with Mk 1 Octy's have gone to 225/45/17 as they fit without any problems, they also have virtually the same rolling circumference as the 205, and more to the point they are a lot cheaper than the 205's.

16" wheels were fitted to the early Mk 1's that went to Ireland, and a very few in this country, but I think they were changed to 17"'s.

17"'s were standard on nearly all except as above.

the esates also had 16" wheels as standard

Cheers :) Better ask my tyre place what he can do 225's for then and see if he knows anyone who wants two almost new (couple of hundred miles) 205 tyres.

Also anyone else use Falkens? I was told they were a good tyre.

Cheers :)

Again, please use the search button, as this has also been covered many, many times.

Falken 452's are ok, but I prefer Toyo T1-R's.

ok thanks, not sure what Falkens I have but will check. I got them in 205 size as they were miles cheaper than any other decent tyre in that size.
