I'm Heading for the top 20

Featured Replies

I'm currently at 66 up 20 places from about 3 wks ago

So look out as I'm coming for you

The quad core is smoking thru these work units nicely

See you in the top 20 soon :P

If you leave your pc on 24/7 you can speed faster up the charts by running the SMP client. I have been experimenting at home, and with a Q6600 each WU takes about 20hrs to complete, but is worth more than 1700 points.

The SMP client is no good if you reboot a lot though, because it starts the WU from the beginning again.

Cool

What i've been doing for know is using the normal version on my user account and the wifes and leaving them both logged on so they run side by side

With the smp client running will it affect game playing and video encoding

I havent really tried yet, I may see how it goes at the weekend. It should really impact any more than the normal separate running clients.

As a rough guide, I got more than 20K points last week, compared to the 16K I normally get.

So in theory if I use the smp client it should just sit as a service like any other, svchost for example.

I ask because the grapical version crashes a few games mostly EA ones

And yes the pc stays on for days at a time unless it needs a reboot for installs etc

Yes, the SMP one runs a service, or just as a command prompt window.

How do I do this?

I've only been folding for a few weeks but it's going ok at the moment!

PC at home and a couple of work laptops.

The SMP client is only any use on quad core machines, although it does work on dual core systems it takes to long to complete the WUs and they sometimes past the completion deadline.

If you have a quad core, then download the smp client (zip file). extract it to a folder and run the batchfile to install it. Once installed, navigate to folder c:\program files\fah**** cant remember the full path and double click on FAH.exe , enter username, team name etc as before , and select to run as a service when prompted. That should get it working.

I'll check when I get home

Well, I have been trying all weekend to get the smp client to run as a service and have so far failed.

When install as a service it starts ok and fah.exe is listed in task manager, but it fails to start the core processes running. Running fah.exe as a shortcut on the desktop still works though, just its a pain having the command window in the taskbar all the time.

I only have dual core at home so did not bother in the end!

As you have a dual core machine, if you aren't already, you could run two console clients?
