I'm booked in at Jabba on the 14th. I bought (well actually DaveU did, but I paid for it ;)) an ABD turbo inlet pipe as our performance FAQ says it is the next best thing to do after a remap. As I'm a numpty with mechanics I called Jabba and asked if they could fit it for me before the remap (as you want to do all your mods before the map so they can take it into account). And what do they tell me? They won't fit it! In fact, they insist it does the remap only harm!

Now there is no way I am going to be able to return the inlet pipe, in fact, I don't want to. So is there anyone here kind enough to help me fit this? I'm in Bucks/Herts.

Yours desperate,

Q.

Get Dave to do it. ;)

Seriously though....may be worth your while popping down to IP...Mike can do it in 10 minutes. Quicker than I can do it plus.....you can compare how shiny your car is with the Red Baron.

Now all you need is an aliby.

Intresting...

I am guessing there is data to back this up, or is it a case of won't fit it as they don't see the benefits for the price?

Mine felt better after it was fitted, how or why I have no idea, but it did, maybe in the mind tuning....

Of course there are alot of people out there with alot of views, as to fitting I think Skodi's views, but if your booked to Jabba for remap with this on, won't it harm your chances?

I would find out why it harms the map, then twist Dave's arm or IP, takes about 30 mins, least it took me two coffee's in a waiting room.

I can't just 'pop down' to IP... It's bloody miles away :( And Dave is my twin in mechanics... we'd be like the chuckle brothers ;)

I know. :rofl::rofl:

Mind tuning. Must get myself some of that. Will the Chuckle Brothers be able to fit that as well ?

Usual disclaimers will have to apply though Rob. :D

hmmmmmmmm....

not convinced of that, must get some personal experience to comment.

i would have thought that the gains wouldn't be that great and that the next thing to do after the remap would be downpipe, sports cat etc etc. - BIG difference between my 1st APR'd RS and my 2nd APR'd, miltek'd(downpipe, sports cat etc) RS.

*cough* What are you to tomorrow night Huck, as mine is almost identical to yours barring this TIP.

Oh and yours is clean thus about 50kgs lighter.

Published gains are cira 12hp MAX, that I take to mean all other pipes downpipe and K04. Personally I think if you can feel it then it's in the range of 5-10, similar to 95 and 98 fuel.

PM for Mr Q :D

colin old boy, i believe there may be a few other differences due to your tinkering with a certain 'v-tune'?!

unforch, i am studying my **** off at the moment with 2nd exam due in 3 weeks. do not want to fail (again)!

would be great to meet up after and compare cars.

(might even see if you're willing to v-tune mine...;) )

:D

Even more reason. But she is presently on base map, clean slate and all that ;)

Again noticable difference between base 95, base optimax and optimax + boost and timing.

The stock TIP I personally think is restrictive, maybe it stops the turbo from being overdriven, but I think not. However I only have the ass-dyno to go on, that tells me air flow is king, more air, more stuff can get mixed more banging stuff goes on things spin faster they get closer and it all gets squirted of down my miltek downpipe...

Maybe it's the spin faster bit...umm

Colin, Please take time out to write a Haynes type manual for the Octy, not quite sure if I would understand it but your tecnical terms & descriptive writing would make it a great read !!

Lets try an explanation.

Got a garden hose? Turn the tap on with the pipe straight. Now we can't have a straight pipe due to the layout of our engine. Now curve the pipe through 90 degrees, taking care not to compress it. Water flow should be fairly similar to the straight pipe. Next bend it through 90 degrees from the straight, this time letting it crimp. What's the flow like now? Fairly poor compared to the other two ways. That's your inlet pipe (the 3rd one), the ABD one is the second one with a nice smooth curve with an uninterupted flow. Wish I'd taken pictures of the 2 pipes for comparison.

er Thanks stuart, is that erm...don't understand :D

Thats what happens isn't it?

Air comes in, goes past MAF down a pipe (TIP) then somthing happens and it comes out of the exhaust.

I'm not a mechanic... My world is that of three letter words like PRT for PRINT, WRKSPLF = work with spool files, WRKACTJOB Work with active Jobs. I get paid for dropping vowels out of words where possible.

Now all I know is air goes in and it comes out....as DES explained it to me, go for a run with a nose clip on, the next bit I've forgotten, but basicaly don't open your mough either, then open mouth and remove nose clip, volia more airflow.

that's all I recall mreairflw

Get Dave to do it.

This thread is getting perilously close to being moved to the Lounge! :(
