Driving a Nissan Micra over Xmas

Featured Replies

 Oh the joy - Although to be fair, it's not a bad little motor. Pretty bulletproof.

Why? You ask! Well, the mongrel is off the road for a few days whilst a new part comes from Skoda - Xmas is delaying things. The part is the metal pipe which goes between the gearbox and the clutch - The joint was "suspect" when fitted first time, and although it had been good for 5 or 6 days, it "went" yesterday so the car needed recovering, and this part is required to ensure a good seal.

So I have a lovely L reg Nissan Micra to pottle about in for a few days. Amazing how one little O-ring can take your car off the road for so long. :o

sorry to hear that jason:O

can't wait to see her in action next year:thumbup:

She'll be glorious. :)

Just seems to be having a rough time at the moment. I guess the gearbox and clutch swap couldn't have gone 100% to plan. :D Perhaps this metal pipe is only designed for a one hit, so I should have got a new one in advance. Still, I was unaware so am paying the price. :o

Still, the micra has twice as many valves as the mongrel.

Hmm, now I know why you're still a bachelor :D

Hope the Mongrel is up and running soonest.

Nissan may quieten you down - just when the roads are at the worst.

Have a Good Good Xmas and New Year, Jason :)

gosh - I thought summat bad happened when I saw the post - good that you're not driving your pride and joy over the drunk-driving season....

There's a pipe between the clutch and gearbox? you mean the slave cylinder???

Was driving my sisters Micra last night and I locked the front wheels to avoid going into a gritter

Wasn't going to fast just the car wasn't as narrow as I thought.

oops

You're replacing parts with Skoda items? No No No... You've got the point of modifying all wrong ;)...

Anyhow, It's good to drive a small car, with no grunt, makes you appreciate your own!

Well, here she is. Seems to be very economical as I nipped into town earlier to get some last minute bits and pieces. :) I can't help but feel slightly less masculine in it though, but at least it DOES have a working clutch.

16v 1.3 POWAHH!

I've had the joy of a 1.0 new-shape Yaris recently. Really well built, but dreadful to drive- as much go as you'd expect, and brakes that did nothing at speed but were hopelessly over-servoed and light when moving slowly.

I managed to make it understeer under braking fairly spectacularly turning into my road earlier. Combo of comparatively pants brakes and wosname tyres I bet.

Still, I should have started braking a little earlier than I really did. Just not used to it I guess. :o

How much did the Micra cost to buy if you dont mind me asking ?

I'm guessing that it cost about £450

It looks in fairly good nick bar the rusty bits by the rear window

5 door model and if the underside is realtively clear and not rotting it should be easy to sell again once you return to a "manly" Skoda.

It's not mine, but I think it was bought dirt cheap from an auction. This car has been kept by the garage where my car currently resides due it being seemingly bomb-proof. :D It's gone for nigh on a year with little at all going wrong with it. I remember borrowing it once when it had something wrong with the idle, and it was trying to stall all the time, but it's good now. Sure, there's a wee bit of rust here and there, but as a motor, it just keeps on going, and to be fair, the 1.3 16v is not a bad engine really - With it being in a small car it does "go". I estimate 0-60 is about 13 to 14 seconds, and with me used to driving a diesel, this thing does not mind going around at 1500 to 2000rpm everywhere. I'll be doing some motorway tomorrow, so shall see how she copes with that. The little bit of 70 cruising I've done so far has been pleasant enough. :)

shocker lol.

at least when I was subjected to having to use a nissan for a few days, it was a 53 reg 1.5 Almera lol.

rock on the micra!

Thanks guys, was thinking of having one the same age as a project car sort of thing, so £400 looks about right or maybe less at auction. Just thought you had brought it just to see you over the holidays for transport while your car was being sorted.

Nope, on loan to me until Saturday. All I have to do is keep her tanked up with fuel. :D She was in a right mess though so I spent a couple of hours today cleaning the outside and getting the glass clean on both sides. :)

I was all set for a mongrel cleaning session as she's got a bit of a mucky ar5e with all this black stuff being put on the roads at the moment. :D So I just vented my cleaning desires in a different direction. :D

Just think jase, that car is screaming to be modded, infact to be a mongrel II ;)

I thought it was just my car that was showing that, and was a little concerned that every time I wasn't looking it was chucking out clouds of soot :D

By the way, if as soon as you get home you get a hose (or a bowl of warm water) and spread it over the back, it rinses straight off... just don't let it dry properly...

My car's actually stayed red for over three days using this method! Haha

I need to wash mine. The rear wheel trims and door sills are black.
