225 tyre's on standard vrs alloys.

Featured Replies

Been thinking about changing up to a 225/45/17 tyre, who's running these and what are the pro's and con's? I suspect it will firm the ride up a little due to the lower profile but anything else more road noise etc? Cheers.

Mine are 225 x 50 x 17 only reason is they are cheaper than the standard 205 :D

I have 225's... I like them because they offer some protection to the rims. The only downside I have noticed is that the fronts rub very lightly when on full lock (I only know because there is a clean mark on the inner wing where the dirt has been removed by the tire touching).

I also get this but like Phil said it's only on full lock.

I don't notice anymore road noise or difference in ride comfort(Standard suspension setup)

225/45/17 - I've not noticed any detrimental effects at all - much more choice and better pricing than 205/50/17 ;)

225/45/17 is the correct size to maintain speedo accuracy. I ran this size on my vRS with no issues for 4 years, just a minor rub on full lock (with coilover suspension).

Thanks for the replys, think im going to go for 225's then, only thing is just recently brought two new falkens tyre's in 205 size! Could you run 225 on the back and 205 up front or will this cause problems as i dont think i can afford a full set just after xmas.

In theory it should be ok.

Yeah, I'm running 205's at the front and 225's at the rear.

Will eventually get to 225's all round as and when tyres need replacing.

Cool! thats good to know, no issue's then with running 225/45 on the back.

I run 225x45x17's - only had them fitted yesterday though LOL

Ride seems fine.

i've been running 225/45/17's for a while with no issues at all. and although a lower number profile wise they aren't any lower due to the extra width.

mine has rubbed down to the metal on the front inner wing(re-undersealed now though). i try and avoid full lock when i can.

Hi!

The 205/50-17 is a "bigger" tyre than a 225/45-17. (2000,6mm vs 1992,7mm) But its only 0,4% smaller...

I do not know if this difference will make a problem for the ESP/ABS-systems.

well within the difference between different brands of the same size or between spanking new and worn out of the same tyre

  • 2 weeks later...

on Toyos own site they list overall diameter of the 225 45 at 636mm and the 205 50 at 636mm so no diffo

Remember your spare, unless you only use it as a recovery wheel.
