VRS...does it need a turbo timer?

Featured Replies

Hi how you all doing?

just wondering if the fabia vrs would benefit from a turbo timer or is there one built in?

just i used to have a vitesse and there used to be problems with the turbo if you didnt let cool down after runs or giving it some?

I think it's the same with most turbo cars that if you have been driving hard/giving it some, don't pull over and turn the motor off.

It's not going to hurt to sit for a minute or so after a blast ;)

Diesel turbos don't get as hot as petrol turbos and for the most part, there is no need

Chris

But it would look good though.

thought diesel turbos dont run at such high pressures as the petrol ones do, therefore dont get as hot as them too?

i do sit in the car for a minute if ive been driving fairly hard, but its out of habit :) got it from my dad when he used to drive rs turbos etc!

A new turbo is a lot of money to fit if yours goes.......why risk it over being unsure how hot it gets? I always let mine idle after a hard or motorway run. Better safe than sorry IMO.

No no no no no no no no!!! ;)

No no no no no no no no!!! ;)

Sorry??

(Also, you've spelled Superb incorrectly in your Sig) ;)

read the owners handbook, says to let the engine idle for a couple of minutes after a hard run!!!

Pressures are actually pretty high but I just let it idle down for a little bit if caning it, and were I to make progress on a motorway and pull into the services to refuel etc, I just slow down nicely to effectively cool it down a bit anyway. No need for turbo timers :)

VW didn't give the 130PD engine one... so it doesn't need one. Simple...

Diesel run higher pressure, but petrols have a higher EGT, thus hotter turbo.

harsh but true ;)
