Rear brake noise

Featured Replies

hi everyone when i am coming to a slop stop i can hear the brakes applying and they make a noice not a bad grinding sound like they are fooked but its strange i can hear them in the car does everyones do this?????

There is a fix available from Skoda to stop rear brake noise but not sure it applies in this case. Mine was 'mooing' in reverse and the fix stopped that one.

Hi,

Mine does the same, its kind of like a grinding noise but not a bad noise like you would get if the pads were worn etc. My car was in for its 30k service at D M Keith 160 miles ago and nothing was said about my brakes so i can only assume that the pads have plenty of life in them and all is normal so i wouldn't worry about it.

I'm not sure if the fabia pads have wear indicators so if the noise has just started then it might be best to check the amount pad you have left as it could be letting you know that they will need changing in the near future.

some rear pads on Fabias are noisy , its down to the friction material used , the ones on my March 04VRS were always quiet , whereas my dads June 04VRS have always been noisy

I had new pads and discs (front and rear) at the beginning of the year, from the moment they went on they 'screech' when slow braking... you can almost tell in what sequence they are doing it (near side front then off side then rear... etc)... I sound like a lorry braking at traffic lights... unless I wait to the last second to brake (and hope nothing goes wrong!). Will consider uprated parts next time (or sooner).

If you inspect the rear disc you may find a lip of rust around the edge. Due to the lack of usage and our winter weather, this builds up and creates noise under braking. You can attempt some hard braking in safe conditions or run with the handbrake on but the problem will just return.

Interested to know of any real solution, dealer tried to fob it off as a side effect of the vrs braking setup which there isn't anything they can do.

mine (07 vRS) get a bit noisy too when it is cold/wet/both.

somtimes there's a "clunk" as you roll away from having the handbrake on for a long time too.

I have all the above symptoms too - a clonk when pulling away when the handbrake has been on for a while and scraping noises when braking at the start of a journey. I've had this in previous cars also - all due to rust forming on the rear brake discs/shoes and brake dust from the rear linings getting sticky went wet. This is usually better when the brake linings are replaced, but returns with time. Suggest you leave the car parked in gear and with the handbrake only lightly applied and then drive off and engage the hand brake slightly whilst driving to clean off the rear brakes. Not aware of any specialist after market brake parts being any better for avoiding these problems - perhaps other people can suggest?

i went to the dealer this weekend and they said that the front and rear brakes were full of crud and crap so they cleaned them all out he asked if i had a pressure washer and i said i regulary cleaned them on the one at work he said big mistake when cleaning them this way the crap is blown back into the brakes so this was my fault..anyway i shall be handwashing them from now on he he and at a cost of 59 i wont be doing it again but they did do a full health check with this and they were working on the car for over 2 hours so not too bad!!! they are fine now thank god lol
