Not happy with paint refinish by the dealer - what to do?

Featured Replies

My Octy-II L&K Black Magic Pearl Effect got a scratch on the rear wheel arch and the refinish done by the dealer (Skoda authorized) is far from perfect. Especially the shade difference is very obvious in the sun (daylight).

I found that they use some "formula" mix of Standox brand paint. I am trying to get the formula from them so I can post it here. Is this normal practice even at Authorized dealers? Don't they use some Skoda genuine part for paint refinish instead of this generic formula?

Can somebody tell me that paint refinish can be as perfect as the OEM finish. Even when viewed in the sun?

Another question: Is there any difference in the Oct1 L&K black magic and Oct2 L&K black magic paints? Have they not introduced some 'pearl effect' or something in Oct2?

My Oct-II paint code is 9910. I came across this site which I am sure will be useful for some of you here:

Standox GmbH

My car is hardly 6 months old and the finish is screwed up! :o

Thanks

Simple, if you are not happy keep taking it back until you are.

Take it to another dealer and complain to skoda that the original dealer didnt do the job correctly.

Forgot to mention that I live in India. I have lodged a written complaint with the manufacturer and I am waiting for them to do something about it. Dealer is willing to do the paint again - but I have a feeling that they are using the wrong material. I have written to Skoda for clarification on what is the 'authorized' way to paint. I will post if there is any update.

They will have spray the whole panel .....but mine is still not right after two attempts and as it is quite close I have accepted it ....but I still know it's there

it is possible to get the finnish perfect, they should spray the whole lot,and then, feather it in to the surrounding pannels,it takes a very good painter to do this, and good painters don't come cheap:D

I work in a bodyshop. and trust me there are about 11 shades to black magic.

Standox is a very good paint for colour matches so if thats not right you wont get much better.

The dealer should pic the best colour and fade it in to the next panel.

It is impossible to get the exact same paint match. and you need to remember this is a repair not a replacement.

Repairs can look as good as new, but they never will be.

Thanks for your response. But will it be as bad as shown in pic?

Would appreciate if you could answer my questions. Standox actually has a website where you can find the formulation for color code 9910. Standox and I see that they have two paint systems (Perlmutt-Basislack and Standohyd-perlmutt-basecoat)

The bodyshop here is using Perlmutt-Basislack system (I saw paint cans with MBXXX codes). Is this okay? Should they not use water based Standohyd system?

With my limited knowledge of German I see no brown shade in the formulation given by Standox on its site, so are they using wrong mix to get the brown shade?

Unfortunately for me, the bodyshop people here are very thick and I am not able to get my point across to them. So I want to do my homework, collect facts and go back to them and get it resolved.
