Nice , dont butcher it too much though , they are on the cusp of becoming a classic car! (When did you last see a standard , original one in good nick?) I take it you'll be looking at the xr3i cabrio if youre wanting a turbo motor in it? IIRC there was a carb model availible too which used the XR3 (non injection) 1.6 CVH , but it wont have the fuel return lines etc on the fuel tank you will need for the injection and turbo engine install.

Yes you are correct they are becoming hard to get hold of original in good nick, there is only one slight bit of rust on this where the roof as not been lined up correctly on the rear quarter.

The 1.6 CVH doesn't have the correct fuel lines or pump for the turbo engine, but the advantage of my job (sales in a scrap yard) these are already available for when I get the conversion done.

I have also considered using a 2.0 Mondeo Zetec bottom end and a turbo top end also known as a ZVH as the bottom ends on the turbo's are prone for going and the top ends off the Zetec's.

Nice little project and an excellent sleeper if the turbo conversion goes well :D

If I get a garage I plan on getting one of these myself... I have fond memories of the one a mate of mine bought one summer about 8 years ago now. It was B reg and had been quite tastefully modded it was in absolutely mint condition as well.:D

They were built by Karmann GMBH in Osnabruk , Germany as well , the same factory that built the Beetle and Golf cabrios , and also the Escort Cosworth (we wont mention the mk1 Kia Sportage!)
