whats the 1.6 fsi like

Featured Replies

Happy New Year to everybody. I am going to change my 1.9 PD tdi hatchback for an estate. When I got my current car I was doing high milage, but now only do 10 to 12K a year. I,ve seen some nice 1 year old 1.6 FSI estates at reasonable prices. Any experience regarding reliability, economy, what their like to drive etc would be appreciated. Cheers

Happy new year to you too

I had a 1.6FSI hatch some time back when my TDI was in for warranty work.

I was pleasantly surprised how well it went provided I revved it enough. There isn't much to play with at the lower end of the revs and you'll notice this even more coming from a TDI.

Personally I would try and get another 1.9 TDI estate if possible but that's just my personal opinion.

Wot he said ^^ :)

Agree had a L&K 1,6FSI estate changed after 9 months no power Got a 2.0 TDI L&K estatewell pleased

Petrol related issues especially if doing low mileage, short journeys. I found exhausts to fail quicker due to not getting hot and burning the condensation out.

I agree, - I'd go for another TDI otherwise you'll notice a significant loss of performance.

Coming from a 406 HDI before, I now have an Octavia 1.6 FSI hatch. Of course, there is no comparison to the driving due to torque differences.

I currently average 43 mpg with a very light foot (compared to 50+ without effort, and with a far heavier foot on the diesel)

I also do fewer miles than before, so petrol was a good option. I guess if you're on this forum you'll miss the power of the diesel though. (specially on an estate when it's loaded).

In and out of town, the 1.6 is sufficient if you like your driving licence. If you like pushing the revs you'll find it comes on the 1.6 at the expense of MPG (easily down to 35, probably even lower if you insist)

Hope this helps

Thanks so far, I don't go fast, so performance wise the 1.6 would probably suit me.

However the TDI has got so much torque that makes it relaxing to drive.

Might need to push the boat out and stick with diesel.

You know it make sense
