Minor diesel drip...

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My (new to me) Octy TDI GLX estate has been marking its territory with a 3" diameter diesel drip when I park it on the drive, and you can get a vague diesel smell near the front of the car. The drip appears to be coming from the front of the engine, but for the life of me I can't see a thing. Also can't see any signs underneath. Where do I look? ...and how does that ruddy great plastic cover come off?

3 x nuts under some little plastic clip covers. Which side of the car is the drip coming from?

drivers side = fuel filter

middle/front of engine bay = injector area

Does your car have the large plastic undertray as that might mask where the drip is coming from.

It smells and looks like the middle front, and the undertray is missing. Had a good sniff and feel round the filter area tonight when I topped the washer reservoir up. I think it's more to the middle, so if I can get to it I'll whip the cover off and see what's what.

There's no running issue apart from a reluctance to start when hot - she needs a few seconds cranking.

I'm reasonably experienced with marine diesels, and the symptoms would initially remind me of air in the system, but she starts right off from cold...

Took the cover off, and there is a leak from the number 2 injector connection... going to be sorted when a couple of other bits get sorted where I bought it.... I've realised it's actually quite bad as what I thought was water on the drive is diesel....

good to know u have found the source of the problem :-)
