Superb is superb!!

Featured Replies

Stuart, they are marginally wider than an Octavia (MKI)

But the main point is Captain Sisko has a Felicia, so its a lot bigger than that:

13cm wider and nearly 1m longer.

The Comfort spec also has the rear sensors, but not the dipping or folding mirrors

Octy II is 1973 wide

Superb is 1895 wide

This does include the mirrors ....so with the Octy being wider width is not a problem...the car is easy to drive but you will need a whole parking space to put it in.

They do grow on you and the handling isn't as bad as some make out, the right tyres will make so much difference.

The other things are, no umbrella in classic spec and I think the folding mirrors are quite a recent addition, folding rear seats came in 2005 .....just for info a classic spec Superb has more toys than an elegance level Octavia:D

My dimensions were taken from Skoda UK's website which don't include the mirrors.

The MKII's mirrors obviously stick out a lot from the widest point (wheelarches) then as the body is within a few mm of each other.

The main problem is the length, this is where the reversing sensors are a godsend, as previously mentioned they do take up the full length of a parking bay.

The folding seats were introduced in May 2004, so a few 54 reg ones have them, but the seat base does not lift up so the backs do not fold flat.

Personally i think they handle very well for a 1.5 tonne car, yes they are no sports car, but they were never designed to be one either.

Where did you get yours chipped? Have you had any problems (I know about the potential clutch issues)? Did it affect your warranty, or was your car over 3 years old anyway?

Sorry for the thread hijack.

Mine is near the end of its warrenty so I thought what the hoo and did it anyway, I don't know for sure but I think it won't affect warrenty on unrelated items, but the skoda dealer is so poor I would rather not bother anyway.

I got the standard Revo and it is very good, I am sure the clutch will wear out quicker, but when it does I will just get another. This has to be expected from more power going through the same transmission,

I would recommend the system, third gear is awsome and 5th at 80 is astonishing for a car of this size with a 1.9 diesel engine, you still have the same problem with regarding to pulling away in that the gears aren't long enough and it takes a bit of effort to get up to speed.

It is smoother too and as long as you aren't expecting rocket power you won't be disappointed.

A good anology which I found to be true is accelate in 4th with the standard car from 70 to 80, once chipped it will do the same time in 5th without all the noise.

Thanks for the replies guys.

(not the full 3.5m size)I have driven slightly bigger cars before like a Vectra/Cavalier and a Sprinter MWB But that was quite easy to maneuver for a largish van.

I'll pop to the Skoda dealer now for a closer look at the Superb.

Limos are good but if you've seen a stretch turn a bend you'll know my concerns!!

You will have no problem at all then, they turn just like any other family sized car.

Does every Superb have an umbrella?

I'm going to be test driving one. Are they relatively easy to drive despite being quite large?

Not sure with the umbrella, the rear NSD has a flap in it for the brolly to reside, and Skoda do sell the brolly as an acc.

No harder to drive than any other car, what you do get is a really absorbant bump killer ride and the general feeling that the car is more expensive than it actually is, go for an Elegance with a Solar roof if you can find one, and make sure it's a 1.9 TDi if you want a reliable experience.

Changed the 48h test drive Superb for a Roomster instead

The Superb seems a little too big for me at the moment.

Waiting for the Fabia estate as that seems Roomster sized.
