Aeriel Amplifier Thingy...

Featured Replies

Hey guys... after blowing up my stereo i put the original stereo back in the car (blaupunkt casseste, lol) and i cant get any reception on the radio at all but i know the stereo works so im thinking that maybe i have also blown the aeriel amplifier too... all fuses are ok.

Does anyone know where the aeriel amplifier is located in the car??

Thanks

Aerial amplifier?

I thought it was just a wire to the ariel on the roof. Shouldn't an amplifier be in the stereo?

If there's an amplifier there should be a connector separate to the stereo loom which connects to a cable at the back of the stereo to power it when the stereo is on. If you follow this power cable it should lead to the amplifier, but I know easier said than done when it could be anywhere behind the dash.

I dont think the felicia has an aerial amplifier, IIRC when I changed the stereo in my brothers Felicia its just a normal aerial connection and no extra power supply.

Even if there was one, and it was blown you would still get reception, just very poor. This could be down to the other part that had failed, you need to put a ohm meter across the cable connection whilst disconnected from the HU to see if the aerial is open circuit.

There is a lead that comes from the stereo that is live when the stereo is on this goes to the aeriel amplifier.

But there's definately an aeriel amplifier but i can't find it!

Got me head right down into the footwell and couldn't see anything back there.

Can't find anything on my haynes about it apart from in the wiring diagram which shows it.

If it has one, then its possible its integrated into another component, eg. the base of the aerial itself as it is on the octavia.

Do you get anything at all. What happens if you go to the frequency of a major station for your area manually. eg, radio 1. Can you here anything at all.

It could be in the bas of the aeriel will have a check.

I get absolutely zilch! I just get white noise then the radio starts to beep to say that there's nothing on that frequency.

I could maybe try and bypass the amplifier as i can't really see its totally necessary.

When i stripped a felly last year there wasnt an amplifier on it. the power at the connector when the stereo is switched on will be an output feed for an electric aerial

I don't understand!

Is the aerial amplified then? There is definately something like this... on the diagram for the stereo wiring there is an output that goes to the aerial amplifier as it says in the list with two other wires going to it inside a shielded cable.

I could maybe do with looking in the aerial thing on the roof and see whats inside.

p.s. have checked all fuses and they're fine.

If it has one, then its possible its integrated into another component, eg. the base of the aerial itself as it is on the octavia.

:iagree:

As I've understood it, lots of VAG cars (VW, Seat) has (had) the same aerial with an amplifier integrated in the base (which means you have to meddle with the interior roof lining when it breaks, which it does...:thumbdwn:

On my Felly 1998 there.s a thin wire tied to the aerial lead connected to a separate 12 V wire (not part of the ISO contact). The same on SWMBOs Octy Mk1.

Success!!! It hasn't blown!

The lead for the aerial is REALLY short so i thought that i ought to get an extension cable anyway so i did which allowed me to test the radio with it out of place and it worked!!!

Must have been tugging at the lead as i was pushing the stereo into place etc.

But there definately is an amplifier.... im going to find it and show you alllll!!!! tehehe

Yes there definitely is an inline amplifier and the standard radio provides 'phantom' power to it through the aerial lead whenever you switch it on. If you fit a normal radio you will need to add an inline power supply for the amp. Like I did!
